Week Beginning 8 May 2017


  • Sports Day – Wednesday 10 May – Years 1 & 2 (9.00am-11.00am) at Primary Campus
  • Healthy Snacks - Please ensure that your child’s daily snack is a healthy one.
  • Warm Weather - Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • School Library - Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday.  If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up afamily account.

This week during Literacy lessons we will be reading the story- We're going on a Bear Hunt written by Michael Rosen. Children will be acting out their favourite events/parts of the story and will be focusing on sharing their opinions with others. They will then write their own version of the story- We're going on an Insect Hunt!

This week in Maths the children will be revisiting their subtraction skills. They will be using numberlines, mental methods and numicon to solve both number and word problems. By then end of the week, children will be able tosolve problems involving number with tens and units.

This week we will begin to focus on reading, witing and using the phase 3 HFWs. We will practise building sentences using HFWs and continue to practise applying our skills using phase 3 sounds. 


This week we will begin a series of weeks on ‘alternative pronunciation’. There are a number of English letters that have different sounds within different words. Our starting examples will be vowel sounds; a, e, i, o and u. An example of alternative pronunciation would be the i sound in tin and find.

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be starting Phase 3. We will be learning the new sounds j, v, w and z. We will also be learning how to read and spell the high frequency words off, can, had, back.


This week Starfish will be learning alternative spellings for ar and ur. They will learn that  ‘ar’ can be spelt as ‘a’ and ‘al’ and ‘ur’ as  ‘or’ and ‘ear’. The children will practise reading and spelling words with these spellings such as: father, branch, halve, almond, worth, worse, learn, early.


This week Stingrays will be beginning phase 4. During this phase we will be using our knowledge of all of the 44 graphemes from phase 2 and 3 to read CVC word. We will be extending CVC words to CVCC such as bent, tent, damp and pant. We will also learning to read and spell the tricky words said and so.


This week the Jelly Fish group will learn to apply the sounds wh, ph an ew. They will be blending them together with other sounds when reading and spelling words i.e. when, which, whom, phonics, Philip, blew and crew. They will also be learning how to read and spell the tricky words Mr, Mrs, don’t,  by, some and come.


Over the next few sessions, the children will be using photgraphs taken on IPADs and then they are going to create textures in paint using different techniques. They will then put their picture together to create a final piece.

This week we will be focusing on friendships and helping our friends to be happy. We will play a variety of different team building games and will practise sharing and taking turns.

Over the coming weeks the children will focus on developing Microsoft Office skills; specifically with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. The children will develop typing skills and key skills in finding and using; text boxes, bold text, italics, changing fonts and font colours. All of which will be developed under our topic theme of Plants and Insects.

作业:完成《上海作业》中相关练习; 课外扩展阅读


Deze week maken we kennis met `De appel van Margritte `, een grappig prentenboek over  het leven en werk van de grootste Belgische kunstenaar van de 20e eeuw.   René droomt van een leven als schilder. Hij wil een kunstenaar zijn die appels schildert, en hoeden... en zelfs 'appelhoeden'. In zijn schilderijen is alles mogelijk. Bomen worden lippen, een stokbrood wordt een neus, wolken drijven door de kamer.

In de spellingslessen maken we kennis met de bankletter.  De `n` en de `k` zitten op de bank te kussen en daar komt niemand tussen!
