Week Beginning 18 September 2017


  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy at
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • Registration for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) is now open to adults and students. The HSK test will be held on Saturday 11 November 2017. Please see the attached registration form for information. Full documentation and payment for HSK test must be received by Monday 9 October 2017.

It is Year 5’s STEAM week!  We are all very exciting about spending the week in the Da Vinci Centre.  The children will be undertaking project based learning and developing their design thinking skills.  Associated with our Water topic, the challenge will be to create a working well.  At the end of the week the wells will be displayed and tested.


Fair test, experiment, design thinking, investigate.


As a side project during STEAM week, the children will learn about Mindstorm robotics, creating an obstacle course for a water transportation lorry.

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

Year 5/6 French – Mr. Bailie
This weekend’s homework will be to continue with the homework grid, choosing one homework task per week.
Next week, the children will continue to revise greetings/ classroom instructions but progress to animal names.
Key Vocabulary:  bonjour, salut, ca va,  ecoutez, repetez, regardez, chat, chien, souris, serpent, lapin and tortue.

This weekend’s homework will be to choose an activity from the home-learning grid.
Next week, the children will continue to investigate the number system from 0-100 and will revise animal names.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger
This week’s homework will be taking pictures of your daily routines on a regular school day. Try to add the time if you want to impress Ms De Borger!

Next week we will talk about our regular school day in French, using pictures of a regular school day to make a video.  We will learn to talk about our daily routines and will add the correct time in French.

Homework: Write 5 opinions about things you like/dislike using the expressions we have learned in class this week. 
Next week: we will be learning how to talk about sports.

This weekend’s homework  will to be copy  the sentence “ I also want ……”(我也要……) and practise the key words without pinyin.
Next week the children will read an interesting story of YCT2 about two students who meet a bird, and they are surprised that the bird can talk. They ask the question with each other! We will focus on learning how to use pattern “ what is your name?” and “my name is ……”

Klaar voor de start

In KS2 wordt nu hard gewerkt aan een spel.De leerlingen hebben verschillende spellen en handleidingen bekeken om inspiratie op te doen. Nu ontwerpen ze  zelf een spel met als thema “de klas”.  Ze ontwerpen zelf het bord, de handleiding, vragen- en opdrachtkaartjes.

Spelling werken we verder in Blok2. Ik zie dat er thuis ook goed geoefend wordt met BlOON. Heel erg goed, ga zo door!
