Week Beginning 30 October 2017

MESSAGES

  • This week will be the Parent Teacher Conference evenings. Please make sure of your day and time as they are on Tuesday 31st October and Thursday 2nd November.  Please rmember ECAs will be cancelled on these days.
  • CHANGE OF DATE:  Please note the visit to the Science and Technology Museum will take place on Thursday 23rd November.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • Each year, Giving Tree aims to provide children in need with a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies.  Please support this worthwhile cause.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be writing and editing our final explanation texts of our Hyena catchers. We hope we have remembered to imclude all the nesscessary features so as the villagers can build our machines and save their well. We are focusing on being able to re-read our own work and assess what changes we need to make to improve our own work.

MATHS

This week the children will be moving onto learning about decimals and looking at how to write these as fractions. The children will also focus on to be able to read, write and order decimals up to 3 decimal places and understand the place value of these.

THEMED LEARNING

This is our pre Da Vinci week and the children will be learning about some of the skills and concept that we will need next week when we go into the centre. Our focus will be on looking at African Batik art styles and how these wonderful designs are created. The following week we will be trying to use our knowledge to make batik cushions. We will also continue to look at water filtering this week and how natural materials allow us to filter.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This will be our last week at practicing our computer programming skills and discovering more about Python coding, using the website Code For Life. The children will continue to learn how to code with real language that is used in industry today.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at resilience and to find solutions to problems for ourselves. Being independent is a skill we hope to develop throughout the year as it is an important part of growing up.

DUTCH

Juf Irene is deze week op bezoek geweest. Ze heeft veel gesproken met Juf Chris en Juf Cindy voor de overdracht. Ze heeft ook de meeste leerlingen even gezien en ze heeft er zin in! Juf Irene begint na de Kerstvakantie!

Verder werken we gewoon verder met het thema: “Gruwelijk Eng!”

De  gruwelijk vieze recepten zijn klaar.  Deze hangen vanaf volgende week op de display of in de klas. Durven jullie het ook echt te koken? De leerlingen schrijven nu een echt griezelverhaal.

Ik heb gezien dat de meeste leerlingen de woorden met Bloon aan het oefenen zijn, heel erg goed!

Nieuwsbegrip huiswerk moet nu ook weer gemaakt worden.

This weekend’s homework will be to continue with the homework grid, choosing one homework task per week. Homework will be checked each week.
Next week, the children will continue practising storytelling. However, the class will now move onto short conversations and French names.
