Emma James
BSc (Hons), PGCSE
Having moved to China four and half years ago, initially for her husband’s job, Emma was keen to return to teaching following the smooth transition for her own children into BISS. Since then, she has been very fortunate to have had many new opportunities, including the challenge of learning a new language, teaching intensive English lessons and working with children from many different cultures at BISS Puxi. Emma teaches Geography, History and EAL at BISS.
Emma is inspired and motivated when working with people from diverse backgrounds and immersing herself in multi-lingual communities. She feels she has a caring and approachable nature, building trusting relationships with her students. Emma has very much enjoyed being Head of Year 7 and Head of Key Stage 3 for the past two years, and is now looking forward to overseeing the pastoral care of the Secondary School students.
Making the move to China has inspired Emma to travel to diverse regions of the world and unlock experiences of many exciting cultures. From this, she enjoys sharing her passions with future generations. Apart from travelling, she takes pleasure in keeping fit through different sports, reading, learning Mandarin and cooking which is enhanced by experiencing the culinary delights of Shanghai’s world class restaurants and the many street foods available.
