Having completed a BA (English) with majors in Psychology and Linguistics, Kelly was originally interested in pursuing a career in research. After voluntary work at BISS Puxi in 2016, however, Kelly fell in love with the idea of teaching. Deciding to make Shanghai her permanent home the same year, she has since worked at the school gaining invaluable experience across EYFS and KS2. Having originally worked as a 1:1 learning support teacher focusing on social and behavioural development, Kelly later focused on academic interventions with children. Being a person who loves change, though, Kelly decided that after two and a half years she was ready for a fresh start: she completed her Postgraduate Certificate in International Education through the University of Nottingham, and transferred to class teacher.
Kelly has had the joy of being a Nursery teacher since January 2018. She prides herself on forming loving, long-lasting relationships with all her students, as well as in her ability to connect with children on their level. Kelly is also very interested in behaviour management and children’s understanding, having researched these topics in depth for her teaching degree. Drawing from these educational interests and the positive relationships that she has with her students, Kelly is able to boost the basics and create an encouraging learning environment for all her students; her ultimate goal in teaching.
When Kelly is not working, you will often find her drinking coffee with a good friend or a good book. She also enjoys music, ballet, going to the theatre and cuddles from her dog, Noah. Being South African, Kelly also has an adventurous side to her. This is evident when she is skiing in South Korea, snorkelling in Palau, or exploring the Australian outdoors.
Kelly is incredibly excited for the year ahead and looks forward to instilling a love of school in her Cubs’ class.
