    BSc, PGDE

    Ian is a highly dedicated and enthusiastic teacher with a clear passion and commitment to his students and their journey of discovery into the beautiful world of Mathematics. He is motivated by a desire to share his love of his subject and to see students grow and develop their confidence in the subject. He believes there is success and positive experiences for all in their study of Mathematics, with the right approach in the classroom. He also enjoys interacting with students, colleagues and parents in the wider school community and being involved in a wide range of activities.

    Ian is a keen chess player who enjoys playing competitively and coaching the game to new players. He also enjoys playing football, badminton and any form of table billiards. He is interested in politics, having been involved as a parliamentary candidate in the UK on several occasions, and enjoys keeping up to date with the latest developments in international relations. Studying Chinese is a lifelong ambition and one he is excited to continue in his daily work. His biggest regret is his lack of travel, both at home in Scotland and here in China. Thankfully, his wife and daughter love to travel and will soon change that!

    Alexander graduated from the University of Leicester with degree in Law and later, completed a Mathematics conversion course and Mathematics PGCE at Bath Spa University. He previously worked in the United Kingdom as the Head of Mathematics at a secondary school in Hampshire. Alexander has worked with a huge array of different ability students and is extremely proud of the excellent results his students have achieved.

    MA (Hons), MA, PGCE

    Carmen graduated from The University of Edinburgh in 2013 with a Master of Arts in Mathematics, where she spent her final year on a research project on the Japanese Temple Geometry – “Sangaku”. She then completed a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education in the Institute of Education before obtaining a PGCE (Secondary) in Mathematics at King’s College London in 2015. After the teacher training course in the UK, she taught in Brunei for five years as part of her education bond because she was awarded a full scholarship by the Government of Brunei to study in the UK. Carmen is a trilingual, growing up from birth in a multicultural country, Brunei, she has naturally been exposed to three languages – Chinese (Mandarin), the Malay language and English. Coming from a multicultural background, personal experience of being educated in different types of school settings and experience in teaching Mathematics to EAL students in a bilingual education setting in Brunei, she has become sensitive in noticing as well as overcoming the difficulties both learners and teachers face in classrooms.

    Aruna earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and Master's Degree in Mathematics at university in India. She completed her PGCE at the University of Sunderland in the UK. Aruna taught for eleven years in India before moving to Shanghai in 2008, where she taught in an international school. She believes that students benefits from inquiry-based learning and logical approaches to real world problems.

    Aruna practises yoga and meditation to enhance her well-being. Some time ago, she developed a keen interest in cooking a variety of Indian food, especially authentic north Indian cuisine. In her free my time, Aruna likes to read and keep herself updated with the latest trends. She also likes to spend time with her family.

    Stephenie Mahay

    Stephenie studied at Mathematics at The University of South Wales from 2011-2014 and then completed her PGCE in Secondary Mathematics in 2014-2015 at the University of Oxford. Whilst at university, Stephenie spent two summers working as a camp counsellor in Wisconsin, America which led her to become a teacher.
