BMus (RBC), MMus (RCM), PGCE
Isabel discovered her passion in music from an early age and studied in specialised primary and secondary schools for music in Taipei, focusing on piano and clarinet performance. With the scholarship received from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Isabel moved to the UK to continue her music education at the age of 18. Later, she completed her MMus in Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London. Throughout the years of studying in the UK, Isabel worked closely with other musicians – from piano trio, duo pianos, piano duet to orchestra playing and accompaniment for choirs and solo instrumentalists.
After graduating from RCM, Isabel completed her PGCE course at the Institute of Education (IoE), UCL and became a music teacher for 2 years at a secondary school in North London, UK.
Isabel continues to broaden her interests in music from the classical genre to music in different kinds and forms, such as film music, fusion, pop, musical and jazz. She believes that every pupil is musical and has their own strength when it comes to expressing and learning music. She is confident that with correct guidance, pupils can enjoy music freely and creatively. Isabel is currently a music teacher who teaches all Key Stages at BISS, from primary education to the International Baccalaureate. The top tip from Isabel to all young musicians is to always be curious and open-minded to all styles and forms of music; be courageous in making music or learning a new musical instrument! Isabel is currently learning guitar and her aim is to create a “one-take music video”, from using music technology to loop all her band-instrument playing into a complete piece!
Besides her passion for music, Isabel loves to travel as it provides her the opportunity to understand different cultures and to witness the beauty of different cities and countries. So far, her favourite city is Prague and she would like to visit Mexico next because of her recent obsession with the ancient Mayan civilisation. Isabel enjoys all kinds of food and is recently into café hopping. To stay healthy she started working on her flexibility through yoga and ballet.
