    Maria Pantasoulas

    Maria gained a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature and then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Education with a distinction from the University of Nottingham, where she also completed her PGCE. She has over ten years of working experience teaching English both as a foreign and additional language. She joined our school after teaching in international schools in Korea and elsewhere in China.

    Lisa Cavanagh

    Lisa studied German with International Studies at Warwick University from 1991-1995. She then took a year out and completed her CTEFLA certificate for EAL and taught children in EAL schools in Oxfordshire. She then found herself working in retail management for 2 years, but felt that her heart lay in teaching and so returned to Warwick to complete her PGCE.

    Laury Valente

    Laury studied Foreign Languages and Civilisations in the University of Avignon, France before moving abroad to obtain a PGCE in Modern Languages at Liverpool John Moores University in 2006. He went on to hone his teaching skills in the city of Liverpool before moving on to Cairo, Egypt where he taught in MES, one of the leading schools in the Middle East. He is a returning staff member as he was part of the MFL department from 2013 to 2017.

    Laury has worked in schools serving culturally and socially diverse communities in different countries and he has gained valuable experience in teaching children within a wide range of age, abilities and backgrounds. He is particularly interested in the idea of collaborative learning and it is clearly implemented in his planning and teaching. Laury firmly believes that his role as an educator is to create and provide opportunities for every student to maximise their potential and to enjoy the process of doing so. He is delighted to be back in our Languages department.

    Fiona McConnon

    Fiona McConnon graduated from University College London (UCL) with an honours degree in French and from York University with a PGCE in French and sport. She subsequently taught English at a University in Lanzhou with Voluntary Service Overseas for two years, where she became fascinated by Mandarin. This led to her spending five years mainly in Beijing as a British Council – Chinese government scholar at the Beijing Languages Institute, completing a Masters in the Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language.

    As Head of Languages at an International School in Beijing, she used western language learning methodologies in her Mandarin teaching to foster enjoyment and confidence in her students.  She more recently headed up the MFL and Classics Faculty in an outstanding school in north London, Northwood College, which excelled in developing deeper thinking in students.

    She has held a number of management roles at the British Embassy and in UK-based charities involved in work related to China and has completed an MSc in Development Management with the Open University.

    Shelley went to East China Normal University in Shanghai. She has gained a bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language there. In the year of 2019, she completed the Masters programme in International Education with King’s College London through the Nord Anglia University.
