Laury Valente

Laury Valente

Teacher of French

Laury studied Foreign Languages and Civilisations in the University of Avignon, France before moving abroad to obtain a PGCE in Modern Languages at Liverpool John Moores University in 2006. He went on to hone his teaching skills in the city of Liverpool before moving on to Cairo, Egypt where he taught in MES, one of the leading schools in the Middle East. He is a returning staff member as he was part of the MFL department from 2013 to 2017.

Laury has worked in schools serving culturally and socially diverse communities in different countries and he has gained valuable experience in teaching children within a wide range of age, abilities and backgrounds. He is particularly interested in the idea of collaborative learning and it is clearly implemented in his planning and teaching. Laury firmly believes that his role as an educator is to create and provide opportunities for every student to maximise their potential and to enjoy the process of doing so. He is delighted to be back in our Languages department.

Laury has a keen interest in music and sport and strongly feels that the balance it gives him enables him to enjoy life to its full. His spiritual home is Liverpool, where he enjoys watching his favourite team Liverpool FC and going for runs on the promenade of Crosby beach.

Laury always sets high expectations for his students. In his own words, students only learn when they are being challenged and a major factor in their learning process is when they realise how they can improve and set themselves specific targets. As a rule, he feels that it is essential that they practise what they have learnt outside the classroom, and develop their skills to become more independent.
