Dear Parents,

One of the highlights of our school calendar came around on Saturday: the BIS International Fair. It was a wonderful event for our community; back to back performances from students across Primary and Secondary showcased the huge talent and passion of our performers at BIS. Our first Friends of BIS up-cycling stall, sold bean bags, pet beds, hair scrunchies and bookmarks to name a few - all of which have been hand-crafted by parents and students from used school uniform. The array of stalls and activities at the International Fair ensured a wonderful time was had by all. There were over 2500 people in attendance.

Kick starting International Week, the festivities continued Monday with our International Parade. Moving the venue outside proved to be a great success with a huge number of parents joining in with their children. We celebrated the 33 nationalities in our school, from F1-Y9 and it was wonderful seeing the beautiful colours and designs of national costumes on display.

Colours, joy and friendship are among the words which crossed my mind during the parade of nations. It was a beautiful way to kick off the celebration. As a parent, I also enjoyed being able to walk around the school with students, teachers and staff members. I truly feel we are a great community! Anne Salapete

Beautiful colours at BIS:

On a fresh morning filled with sunshine, our international week kicked off with a parade of 600 students, teachers and parents in colourful costumes and waving flags representing the various nationalities at BIS. It was a great chance to celebrate us being a school with students from all over the world. And a chance for me to recognize and appreciate all of the nation’s our students come from. This is a wonderful annual event that we as a school create together. It highlights our common goals of promoting global cooperation and strengthening relationships between the diverse cultures at our school. I really appreciate all the BIS teachers for educating and leading our Global Citizens. "Gam-sa-ham-ni-da(Thank you in Korean)" Rosa Park

It was so lovely to see the parent turn out to this years parade of nations at BIS!
So many parents where dressed in national dress & color schemes and everyone was full of smiles whilst walking the parade hand in hand with our children.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the volume of nationalities within the school! Natasha Chapman

This is a week where we shine the spotlight on the nationalities within our school and develop a greater understanding about our friends and where they come from. With a focus on #UNGoal Climate Action we are all reducing our waste by using recycled materials and being inspired by innovation around the world that will help save our planet.

The Vietnamese Experience in the Parent Lounge, set up by parents and our Vietnamese staff, has been a hive of activity with students and teachers tasting food and learning more about our wonderful host nation. The cyclo ride has been a real highlight for all visitors.

Remembrance Day Assembly

IW 2019

The role that the British military play in international conflict resolution was explored during Thursday’s Remembrance Day Assembly.  In the company of Defence Attaché, Bea Walcott,  the children had the opportunity to reflect on the horror of war in the past.  Student poems explored how conflict continues to have an impact on today’s world.  Finally, there was a strong message of hope and a celebration of peace, too.

This incredible week came to a wonderful crescendo today as students and parents travelled ‘around the world’ visiting different classes and learning more from each other; building up an appetite for the International Buffet -  a smorgasbord from around the world, enjoyed by students, staff and parents.

A week of festivities such as these, would not be possible without our supportive parents and members of BIS community who have come in to lead workshops, presentations, teach skills, cook food and have fun with our students. Thank you to everyone who has joined in and supported us this week; we feel very proud of our BIS Community.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Rebecca Carroll
