The new academic year is well underway now and I could really sense the busy and focused air in school this week.
Clubs began on Monday. Our programme offers 45 clubs for the Primary School this term ranging from our sports squads and recreational sport such as the splash pool club or dance, to art clubs including sewing, card making and rice pictures to some new clubs like “The Citizen” (journalism) and “Junior Chef”. Musical instrumental lessons are also on offer plus the choirs.
Dr Rebecca Lee visited the British Vietnamese International School on Wednesday. I felt very proud of the Year 4, 5 and 6 children’s ability to listen for an extended period of time and afterwards Dr Lee told me that she had never had so many questions from Primary School children before! Well done BVIS!
Dr Lee had some important messages for the children for their future:
1. Explore and get to know your home country. Vietnam has much to offer and at BVIS we want our children to be proud of the country they live in.
2. Pursue your dream! Dr Lee urged the children to take that first step towards fulfilling their goal as it could take them a thousand steps further.
She shared her beautiful paintings and photographs with the children and hopefully inspired some of them towards a future in art, science or exploration through her talk.
The week ended with our first coffee mornings of the year. On Thursday a large group of parents attended our phonics coffee morning led by Ms Madeleine and Ms Mai. Parents were shown how their children learn both English and Vietnamese phonics here at BVIS and how they can access online resources to help at home.
On Friday, Early Years parents joined Ms Catherine and Ms Uyen to learn about the curriculum for our youngest children in the school. Parents were also able to spend some time in the classroom with their child.
Thanks to all the teachers who prepared and led these sessions.
BVIS Primary Student Council 2015-2016
Excitement in the Primary School has been building over the past couple of weeks with children preparing and delivering their Student Council election speeches.
Earlier today the results were announced in assembly.
We are looking forward to working with the children and hearing all about their ideas.
