At International College Spain, we believe that great learning begins with great thinking. Our Assistant Head of Secondary, Dr Jennifer Barnett, was recently featured in El Español newspaper discussing the power of metacognition, the ability to think about one’s own thinking.
Metacognition helps students understand how they learn best, make conscious decisions about their study strategies, and apply those skills across different subjects and real-life situations. As Dr Barnett explains, “learning is a consequence of thinking”. When students are taught to reflect, question and connect ideas, they become more confident, independent and resilient learners.
This approach is embedded across our school through visible thinking routines and reflective practices that encourage every child to take ownership of their learning journey.
