Our Secondary School Curriculum

Our Key Stage 3 and 4 students follow the English National Curriculum, which culminates in their (I)GCSE exams at 16 years old.

Lessons are taught by our subject experts. Your child will also be supported by their class tutor, who has the important pastoral role of coordinating all aspects of their academic and social development. Challenging, engaging, and packed with outstanding learning experiences, our Secondary School education provides a broad and balanced education that prepares our students for A-levels and beyond.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum supports our students through the transition from Primary to Secondary school. At this vital stage in their education, specialist subjects embed a deeper knowledge and understanding, preparing them for their (I)GCSEs.

Students study English, maths, sciences, geography, history, drama, art, Russian language, computing, music, and PE. Your child will also choose one other foreign language. This gives them a flavour of what it would be like to study each subject at IGCSE level, helping them to make their choices at the end of Year 9.

Our teachers will also encourage your child to become a confident, independent learner. In each subject, they’ll be supported to assess their own work, identify areas for development, and establish clear goals.

Project work is an essential component of our Secondary curriculum, too. Students work both individually and in groups, developing important critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Your child will also be supported to take risks, as making mistakes is a critical part of the learning process.

(I)GCSE curriculum (Years 10-11)

At Key Stage 4, our students study for their (I)GCSEs. Your child will learn in a way that works for them, based on their academic strengths and goals, as well as their ambitions for the future.

Our students typically study nine or ten subjects, which prepares them for the next stage of their education. This also enables plenty of time to explore interests outside of school.

We know that choosing which subjects to study at (I)GCSE can be a daunting process. We will support you and your child every step of the way, exploring options, explaining how and what we teach, and identifying career and university ambitions.

Our courses are provided by CIE and Pearson examination boards.

Learning outside of the classroom

In Secondary School, your child will take part in a variety of experiences that complement their academic studies.

From outdoor education and challenge activities to community projects, leadership opportunities, and House competitions, your child will work with others, build strong relationships, and develop a host of transferable skills. We also offer The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, as well as creative, sporting, and musical After-School Activities.

AN OUTSTANDING BRITISH EDUCATION

Our carefully constructed British academic programme – combined with the highest levels of personalised pastoral support – lay the foundations for our students’ success, both now and in the future.
