We had an incredibly exciting and (very) busy International Week this year on the Krylatskoe Lower Campus. The children learnt so much about many different countries, cultures and traditions from the staff, parents and one another! It really was a celebration of the diversity which we value so much at ISM. EYFS ‘travelled’ to Greece where they got the opportunity to have a delicious Greek picnic.

Year One focused on Fiji and Jamaica, learning some Fijian and Patois greetings as well as learning about island life! In Year Two the children learnt about many countries including Thailand and Colombia. Year Three travelled to Macha Pichu in Peru and designed an elephant sanctuary in Laos! Year Four explored South Africa and Peru, too!
We were very fortunate to have so many willing parents and nannies come and speak to their child’s class about their own home country. There were so many interesting presentations and fun traditions shared about places such as France, Spain, Korea and Switzerland, to name only a few! Croissants and fondue were a firm favourite of the snacks!
The international costumes which the children (and staff) displayed were amazing and colourful! The International Breakfast really gave everyone an opportunity to bond over foods from all over the world, with many of the children trying flavours and treats they would never usually experience.
The assembly ended the week nicely discussing why celebrating International Week and internationalism as a whole is important. We are lucky as to be a part of the community that shares and accepts each other's differences. It teaches us to be that much kinder and the importance of being tolerant – we are all the same on the inside. There really is too much to mention that Lower Campus did over the whole week, but it was such fun and everyone came together with amazing efforts to bring the celebration to life!
Research shows that confident students are more likely to succeed academically.
In fact, several science-backed studies cite self-confidence as the number one predictor of academic achievement. Researchers found that students with greater confidence were more willing to learn and challenge themselves. They were also more motivated, resilient, and capable of dealing with adversity.
At the International School of Moscow (ISM), our job is to build and nurture positive self-esteem in children. But what is confidence? And how does it affect academic performance?
