At the organic farm, they learnt about the concept of organic farming, companion planting, and raising seedlings. They discovered how salat grow and harvested carrots. Students participated in rice planting, a very muddy but most enjoyable activity. Delicious snacks and lunch were provided, with all food coming from the farm which the children found amazing. A great example of purposeful and engaging learning all linked to the current IPC topic ‘What’s on the Menu?’

"After a long busride, we arrived at an amazing piece of nature! We had our snack which was cassava from the gardens. After that, we walked around in the gardens where the green and black tea plant are grown. We then pulled some carrots out of the ground and we could even take them home! We saw how the snake fruit grow and tasted fresh ones. We learnt that they plant seeds in banana leaves because it is biodegradable and good for the nature. In the end we were allowed to plant our own rice in the muddy rice fields! It was a great day with amazing, fun and meaningful learning."

"I learnt a lot during this field trip. We walked a lot and were guided during this whole trip. We got messy but it was worth it. Now we know how people feel when they plant rice in muddy pools of rice fields during the rain for a whole day. In the end we had banana pancakes, everything that we ate were grow there. It was a nice experience that we all enjoyed together. "
