We are pleased to invite you to our Early Childhood Open House event!
As an educational institution committed to promoting academic excellence in Panamanian education, we organized the "METWork" training seminar on April 22. The seminar was aimed at directors and teachers from local educational centers. Indira Acosta, Academic Director, and Vielka González, Coordinator of the EAL Program (English as an Additional Language) at the MET, organized the event in partnership with MEDUCA, AMCHAM, and Glasswing.
What is METWork?
METWork is a program created in 2013 to provide free workshops led by MET teachers and specialists to support MEDUCA teachers' professional growth. METWork offers a variety of activities and resources designed to strengthen pedagogical skills, encourage collaboration among colleagues, and promote educational innovation. It also facilitates collaboration and best practices among educators from different local communities. This is where they can discuss and share ideas, resources, and experiences.
The event was attended by more than 80 people, including directors and teachers from educational centers in two educational regions (San Miguelito, Panama Centro). They participated in 15 workshops conducted by 20 teachers from the Metropolitan School of Panama.
The event began with a small reception, breakfast, and coffee. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Mark Starbuck, the Director of the Metropolitan School of Panama. In addition, the event organizers, Indira Acosta and Vielka González. Subsequently, the participants were divided into different 50-minute working sessions. Some of the topics addressed during the sessions included:
Fine Motor Development for Pre-writing and Writing
Socio-Emotional Skills in Early Childhood
Group Management and Control Strategy
Attention and its Impact on Meaningful Learning
Different Ways of Learning, Different Ways of Teaching
Additionally, our Head of School Dr. Mark Starbuck successfully delivered a special 45-minute session focused on educational leadership to local school directors.
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen our commitment to providing quality education and staying at the forefront of educational innovation.
Our gratitude extends to all the directors and teachers from each local school for their participation. In addition, we thank MEDUCA, AMCHAM, and Glasswing for their collaboration. We also recognize the 20 teachers responsible for conducting all the workshops.
October marks the beginning of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This year, we joined the global initiative, highlighting the theme "Data Privacy: Protect Yourself." In this article, we'll explore the significance of this annual event, the MET’s commitment to digital safety, and how we're empowering our Elementary and Secondary students to be responsible, mindful, and informed digital citizens.
