Campus Reopening

The British School Yangon (BSY) is excited to announce that we will be re-opening the campus in Yangon with our full provision and all our teaching staff for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The last two years have been challenging for many of our families and indeed many of our staff who have had to adjust to a virtual school experience that went on for far longer than any of us could have anticipated at the outset.

Now that we are re-opening the campus in Yangon for face-to-face learning, we know there will be many questions from current parents and prospective parents on what that will look like and so we have compiled a list of some of the frequently asked questions that we have received along with answers from our Principal, Mrs. Alison Fox.

If you have a question not featured on our FAQ, please reach out to the admissions department at admissions@britishschoolyangon.org and we will make sure that your question is answered by a member of the school's senior leadership team.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. With the scarcity of US dollars, will BSY accept fee or partial fee payments in Kyat?  What is the process for fee payment?
Our school fee schedule is published and quoted in USD and in normal situations, we ask for all school fees to be settled in USD. However, Central Bank regulations in Myanmar can change swiftly and with little notice, we therefore ask that you contact our finance team directly with specific questions so that they can give you the most up to date information.

2. Will BSY re-open fully, or will it re-open using a hybrid model?
We will resume face to face learning on campus with all teaching staff on Monday August 22nd 2022. Our focus will be on welcoming all students back into school after a significant period of online learning. Whilst we will always consider exceptional requests on a case by case basis, we have no plans to offer a hybrid option. We firmly believe that the academic and emotional wellbeing of every child in our school is best served by having them back on campus - learning with their teachers and with their peers.

3. Will students be expected to wear masks in the classroom?
Yes, at time of writing we expect masks to be compulsory in the classroom but not outside or during periods of physical activity or exercise i.e PE. However, this may be subject to change.

4. Will transportation be available?
Yes, we will be offering a daily school bus service through an external company. This service will incur an extra cost, please contact us for further details.
5. Will school lunch be available?
We firmly believe in ensuring our students understand the importance of healthy eating, and developing social skills while eating together is truly valued at BSY. Therefore, all students will be able to enjoy a nutritious and varied lunch provided in the school canteen with teachers and teaching assistants often eating with them. There is a charge for lunches, details of which can be found on our website.

6. Will BSY be able to recruit sufficient teaching staff to offer a full provision?
Yes, we have already recruited high quality teachers to replace any departing members of staff. Being part of Nord Anglia Education means that we can attract outstanding teachers who are looking to join a premium educational organisation. Of particular value are our continual professional development framework, and the unique collaborations on offer, both within our school as well as the global family of NAE schools.

7. What will learning look like if the school is forced to close again?
We are very well positioned to transfer to online learning should exceptional circumstances dictate. With the adoption of Microsoft Office and MS Teams, we have an excellent resource to deliver online learning. Our Virtual School Experience would restart without delay ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining progress and achievement.

8. Will COVID-19 and the ongoing security situation impact the school trips and extra-curricula/co-curricula activities offered to students?
Whilst our priority is the social and emotional wellbeing and development of our students, the safety and security of everyone in our community is paramount. We hugely value the extra-curricular experiences and opportunities that can be offered to students and will certainly be incorporating them in our offer going forward. However, no activity would be undertaken without extreme caution and careful consideration.
