Dear Parents,

ALL SCHOOL UPDATES:

SECONDARY SCHOOL OPEN EVENING – 29 September (5pm to 7.30pm) Please RSVP to ricky.auyeung@nais.hk. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. You’re welcome to bring non-NAIS friends. We’re keen to show off our school!

SPORTS DAY – Please save the date for our first All School Sports Day on 27 November at the Kowloon Bay Sports Ground. Details to follow.

UNIFORM: Swimming and Gymnastics – Click here

Our swimming uniform (swimsuits, shorts and caps) are all now available, as well as our gymnastic leotards. You can order and pay online and arrange pick-up at school, or you can go directly to the uniform shop in Jordan. We’ll have size samples in school from next Wednesday.

EARLY ASSESSMENTS – Siblings looking to start in Year 1 in August 2016 will be invited to assessments on 23 November. Look out for details from our Admissions Manager, Debbie Stephen.

LUNCH – Please remember to order your school lunches for October. Click here.

LESSON OBSERVATIONS – You may be interested to know that we’ve been having ‘lesson observations’ by our Principal, Assistant Principals, Head of Curriculum and Head of Pastoral Care all week. This is a key part of our professional development for all our teachers and ensure that we’re able to share suggestions and best practice openly, to ensure that your children are being taught by some of the best teachers in Hong Kong.

PTA HALLOWEEN PARTY – Save the date – Friday 30 October. Details to follow.

PRIMARY SCHOOL:

3B ASSEMBLY – Celebrating Harvests and Mid-Autumn Festivals

Our 3B class delighted us all this morning with their take on a traditional Harvest Festival meets Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. Showing their creative side they brought together bread-baking with mooncake making, and beautifully sang ‘The Paint box’, more commonly known as ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’! I didn’t manage to catch them on video, so if any of our parents have a clip, we’d love to share it.

STARS OF THE WEEK

This week we recognised values in our pupils that we feel are really important: friendliness, manners and perseverance.

NAIS KNIGHTS IN ACTIONClick here for photos

Our Year 5 & 6 Knights were in action earlier in the week playing football against Kellett. We had 28 boys and girls competing in small sided games and our Knights made us proud. True to the NAIS sporting values that Mr Pate spoke about in our Parent Workshop on the subject last week (click here for the presentation), our teams demonstrated strong teamwork skills and appreciation of their competitors whether they won, lost or drew games.

Our Junior and Senior Netball Teams are also training hard and showing true NAIS sporting values for international school fixtures over the next months. Details on these fixtures will come directly from Coaches Kristen, Amber and Sid.

5 October – YEAR 5 POETRY PERFORMANCE

All our Year 5 parents will receive details directly from your class teachers, but just a reminder that this will take place on 5 October from 8.30 onwards.

29 October – IMMUNISATION DAYS (YEAR 1 AND 6 ONLY)

If you would like your child to be included in our Immunisation Days, please return the form that was sent home earlier this week. You can contact Charlotte, our nurse on nurse@nais.hk with any questions.

And a final reminder … we currently have 24 siblings that have applied for Year 1 places from August 2016. We will be holding these Early Assessments on 23 November.

SECONDARY SCHOOL:

Secondary Assembly – Being safe and responsible online – Click here

Mr Bishop led an Assembly that focused on the real issue for our young students of being safe and responsible online. This came on the back of a Parent Workshop on the same subject earlier in the week, led by our Head of Pastoral Care, David Boyd. Please take the time to watch his presentation and talk about this with your children.

We also celebrated achievement in maths, with Highly Commended Awards going to Sissi Yu and Janice Ooi (Year 7) and Annie Bai and Jean Jang (Year 8).

8 October – Year 7 Scavenger Hunt – One of the high points of the year for our Year 7s. The annual Scavenger Hunt across Hong Kong!

9 October - Settling In Reports for Years 7 and 8 will be available, followed by Teacher-Parent meetings on 14 October (3.30pm to 7.00pm)

Early November – Year 8s are planning their annual Team Building event. Looks like being an overnight camping trip. Details to follow!

Finally, please remember that next week is a short week. Both Monday and Thursday are public holidays. May we wish you all a very happy Mid-Autumn Festival with your families.
