Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
The highlight of the week has to be the amazing response that the school and the PTA received by way of the donations of mooncakes. Coupled with the great reaction of local residents to our children delivering the mooncakes and entertaining them musically, it really has made a difference.
My thanks, too, to all the Parents who have volunteered to assist in the library with a special thank you to Sophie Voon who has been unstinting in her support. The person we appointed to the post of Teacher/Librarian withdrew over the summer so we are re-interviewing. I am very grateful that children have not had their access disrupted as a result.
In the Secondary assembly this morning I reminded the students continually to be ‘Ready, Responsible, Respectful and Safe’ as introduced by Mr Cross last week. Mr Pate then went on to announce the squad for the AIS U12/14 swimming gala, and I’d like to say well done to the successful girls. Mr Pate also announced the squad for the Global Games Asia who will attend the event at our sister school, The British International School of Hanoi. We shall publish the names of the squad later, but for now, congratulations to those boys and girls selected.
Many of you have asked me about the new campus and I hope that positive news is imminent!

COMMUNITY CHOIR
Move over glee club, NAIS HK is bringing you something even better! On Monday, 19th September, our Director of Music, Miss Rowan, will be launching our very own community choir. This will run every Monday from 4-5pm. All you need in order to attend is enthusiasm, enjoyment of singing and willingness to join in – we all have voices, therefore we can all sing!
The aim? To bring together our secondary student community with our adult community to make vibrant music and enjoy every minute of it. We will perform for termly concerts, and, in the long term, venture outside of school to perform in public. We will start with pieces for the Christmas concert, but being a community choir, if you have suggestions of pieces you would like to do, please let me know!

CAREERS TALKS
As part of the school’s commitment to careers planning for our Secondary students, we would like to invite any parent willing to share their careers experiences to come in and speak. This is a great way for students to learn first hand what it takes to enter a certain profession, but just as importantly, what it takes to get there.
If you would be interested in sharing your experiences with our students and helping them to shape their futures, please email Assistant Principal, Christian Bishop, at Christian.Bishop@nais.hk with a brief description of what your profession is and what you would be happy to offer.
SECONDARY OPEN EVENING
A reminder that Wednesday 14th September, 6:00-8:00pm is our Secondary Open Evening where you can meet our teaching team and find out more details about the curriculum as a whole.
Thanks for everyone who registered – if you are able to attend please let Ricky know by Monday, 12th September. If you are unable to attend, don’t worry, as the presentation will be uploaded to Firefly and the website soon after the event.
GLOBAL CAMPUS ONLINE OPEN FOR BUSINESS
We are pleased to announce that Global Campus Online website went live this week with a revamped design and lots of new activities and resources. Lots more activities will be added across the year but two areas of immediate interest include our Global Campus Photographer of the Year competition and the Global Library which now includes titles for years 1-3 for the very first time.
Global Campus Online can be accessed via our school’s Firefly website. The attached document gives a step by step explanation of how to access the site. If you have any difficulties, please contact your class teacher or our Global Campus Leader David Robinson at david.robinson@nais.hk
We have lots of exciting challenges coming up soon. Look out for our Primary Passports which will be distributed to pupils in early October and our Parent Workshops for getting involved in the Global Campus.

GLOBAL CAMPUS PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
The Global Campus Photographer of the Year competition is back owing to popular demand and with some amazing prizes! Winning entries will feature in the 2017 Nord Anglia Education Global Campus calendar. This year's theme is nature and the deadline for entries is 3rd October 2016.

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL PTA COMMUNITY MOONCAKE COLLECTION
Message from Gemma Simmonds, NAIS PTA Chair, “Thank you to parents who kindly donated mooncakes to the PTA, we were overwhelmed by people’s generosity. The PTA, with the help of student council members and musicians, helped share out the mooncakes to a local support group for the elderly called The Ivy Club, a not-for-profit service behind the Tak Tin Plaza”.

Thank you to all who joined us on Wednesday for the PTA coffee morning and to Gemma Simmonds for organising.
Thanks also to Mr David Seto for his great Parent Workshop his morning. David spoke to the parents about 3D printing, something he is passionate about and demonstrated how children attending his workshops would design and create their own structures. David designed a castle in front of the group and then created it, right before their eyes. The school has invested in a number of these printers and the students will be using them as part of STEAM projects in the near future.
HIKING CLUB
Every Monday, a lovely group of parents meet at 8:15am, to explore Hong Kong. Hikes tend to be on the island and based around the Hong Kong Trail. They are not too difficult (although you’ll probably get the heart rate and a little bit of a sweat going) and there are always plenty of get-off points along the way so don’t be scared to try. It's a fun way to meet and interact with like-minded women, talk about school or the kids or even the country you’ve come from. It’s amazing the cultural exchange that can happen up in these mountains. Hike last approximately 2-3 hours depending on the stages covered.
Monday’s walk will start and end at the Peak, taking in 7km of beautiful scenery.
