Answering Big Questions with help from UNICEF

Answering Big Questions with help from UNICEF Despite the temporary closure of many of our school campuses, Nord Anglia’s Global Campus has been open and busier than ever. One area that has been of specific interest has been The Big Question where students at the Prague British International School in the Czech Republic set a discussion question about the impact of Covid-19 on the UN’s Global Goals.

Despite the temporary closure of many of our school campuses, Nord Anglia’s Global Campus has been open and busier than ever.  One area that has been of specific interest has been The Big Question where students at the Prague British International School in the Czech Republic set a discussion question about the impact of Covid-19 on the UN’s Global Goals.

At NAIS HK our students have jumped enthusiastically into the discussion alongside their peers from around the world. Maithili in Year 8 stated that: “Despite many of us being physically apart, technology has allowed us to still connect virtually. I think that communities should come together to host regular meetings to brainstorm ideas for how to tackle the problems that the world faces, other than this pandemic. Of course, right now we need to eradicate Covid-19 and restore our world back to a state of normality, however it's important that we also don't lose sight of the Global Goals as well.” While Ananya, also in year 8 notes that “After this crisis ends as we would have experienced a small taste of what other parts of the world have to suffer. It has seemingly made the goals more important. All of the drastic changes, rules and laws have been put in place to ensure better health and well-being (Global Goal 3).”

In addition to interacting with their international peers, Global Campus has also allowed our students to make connections with some of the world’s leading experts. Last month, students submitted questions about the impact of Covid-19 on children for Henrietta Fore, the Executive Director of UNICEF – look out for her responses in the near future.

Earlier this month Global Campus Online hosted its first ever live UNICEF Talk, with Kate Pawelczyk, a Youth Engagement Specialist who works at UNICEF’s Headquarters in New York. Kate answered students’ questions and explained how we all can take action to help the world respond to Covid – 19 -  even from home. You can watch a recording of the webinar and learn more about UNICEF’s Voices of Youth platform on Global Campus here:

NAIS HK students have already started posting questions for the upcoming UNICEF Webinar: Being a Young Person in Afghanistan. This will be hosted live on Thursday May 28th at 9 PM and features Alison Parker and Cassia Ayres from UNICEF discussing the opportunities and challenges facing young people in Afghanistan. Students can learn more about their work and post questions in advance here:
