Early Years Campus Weekly Update

Early Years Campus Weekly Update - Early Years Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

It has been a vibrant week at our school, filled with learning, collaboration, and community spirit. I would like to share some highlights and upcoming events that showcase our wonderful children and our commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for our children.

A Wonderful Literacy Morning
Last Thursday morning, we had a fantastic turnout for our Literacy Workshop and in-class celebration, hosted by Ms. Griffin and Ms. Millington. It was inspiring to see so many parents engaged in our session, where we shared our approach to supporting children's literacy development.

During the workshop, we emphasized the vital role of language and communication in early learning. Laying a solid foundation in speaking and listening is critical, as it sets the stage for reading and writing skills. We introduced our phonics program, Read Write Inc, which ensures children have early success in reading, writing and spelling, along with our Talk4Writing approach. T4W creates a dynamic environment where vocabulary is not only learned but actively used and explored, thus improving young children's vocabulary development by engaging them in storytelling through oral language practice.

Current research highlights that young children learn best through interactive and engaging experiences. It was wonderful to see this in action as teachers demonstrated these approaches in class. The children confidently retold stories, using the visual prompts and actions and created their own versions, showcasing their creativity and understanding.

Welcoming Prospective Families
This Wednesday at 3pm, we will welcome prospective parents and children to explore our Nursery classes for the next academic year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our thriving and vibrant school community. We are excited to invite new families to join us and become part of our school’s journey.

Connecting with Colleagues
On Friday, Ms. Griffin and I will be traveling to Guangzhou to meet with our Early Years colleagues across Nord Anglia schools in China. This collaboration allows us to share best practices and strengthen our connections within our family of schools, sharing and enhancing our approaches to early education.

Upcoming Community Engagement
Looking ahead to next week, we are eager to welcome the Sai Kung Elderly back to our campus. Our students will engage in special activities with them, including singing, yoga, crafts, and planting. This event reinforces the message that both our children and the elderly are valued. It also provides our students with the opportunity to apply their learning from Chinese, PE, and Art lessons in a real-world context. Connecting classroom learning to community engagement is a powerful way to deepen understanding and foster empathy.

This events also sets the stage for Wednesday 20th, when we celebrate WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY.
