Secondary Campus Weekly Update - Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

What a fantastic weekend filled with community spirit! It was uplifting to see our secondary campus buzzing with excitement at the PTA summer fair. A huge thank you to all our enthusiastic students who worked in year teams to fundraise and perform and to all our staff who supported them. We look forward to hosting another important community event soon, please mark Wednesday 13th June in your diaries for Secondary International Day.

NAISHK needs you! It would be wonderful to have representation from all our families to celebrate our diverse community. Students have told me this is one of their favourite days in the school year and they are very excited to celebrate. We will be in touch soon with more information, thank you in advance for your continued support.

SPORTING UPDATE
On Monday 22nd April, the U14 Boys Touch Rugby team won their first match of the season vs CAIS 7-2. Efe was the player of the day, while Eli led the scoring with 2 tries. A great performance from the team who have had limited training time together. Oliver and Seb were pulling the strings in the middle of the park, creating space to release the team out wide. An excellent foundation to build on as they prepare for the rest of the season.

On Monday 22nd April, the U14 Girls Netball team had their first match of the season against RCHK. The girls have had limited training but went into their match with confidence after a detailed warm up. At half time, the score was 5 – 3 to RCHK. However, with a team talk from Miss Wiltshire and from Kaira and Isabel to the team, the girls started the third quarter with newfound rigor. Maya changed into GS and started to find her rhythm with her shooting while Ailsa changed into GA and together supported each other much better in the shooting D. Due to these half time changes the game finished 8 – 5 to our Knights! Well done team and looking forward to the next match against VSA.

The U12 girls' volleyball embarked on their first match of the season against tough opposition at their home court. Renaissance College came out strong, demonstrating some excellent serving and plays. Despite NAISHK showing their grit and determination, Renaissance college won 3 sets to 0. Excellent first game of the season girls! Lots of positives to take into the next game. Well done.

Our U12 boys football team travelled to Malvern College on Thursday 25th April. A mixture of experience made up the squad following the trials last week, with some players playing in their first organised game of football. A positive start saw our Knights put lots of pressure on the Malvern College goal. The half time scoreline of 4-0 with a hat-trick for Edwin and an instinctive finish by Hugo, was almost added to by a thunderous free kick by Sam that rattled the goal and left it shaking for a long time after! The scoreline was particularly impressive considering numerous substitutions being made and players rotating positions. Malvern rallied at the start of the second half and deservedly scored two goals which their efforts deserved. Our Knights managed to remain composed and continued to play football, keeping the ball on the floor, and working hard out of possession. A goal from Louie following a breakout of defense, a lovely volley finish by Alex and an own goal saw a final score of 7-2. An impressive start for our team and there looks to be potential in the squad for new players to gain valuable experience.

DP GEOGRAPHY TRIP TO POLYU
Our Year 12 Geography students attended a STEAM Talk at the department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics at PolyU last week.

At the University, our students received a fascinating talk presentation about Smart Cities and the use of 3D mapping in HK. Our students will be exploring more about the information explored during the Talk about Hong Kong’s Smart City Blueprint 2.0, in their upcoming IBDP Geography lessons.

We then took to the rooftop to learn and use the geospatial technologies like laser scanning. Finally, we ended the PolyU trip with a visit to their laboratory to see how technology can help us to explore the world beneath us.

MATHS SPOTLIGHT AND HIGHLY COMMENDED
Year 7 and 8 students participated in the UKMT Junior Maths Competition that occurred on Friday. The competition tested their mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills. Students worked diligently to solve challenging math problems and showcase their abilities. They demonstrated determination and perseverance throughout the competition, reflecting their strong passion for mathematics.

Year 11 and 13 math students have diligently prepared for their upcoming IGCSE and IB Diploma Math exams. They have studied various math concepts and solved challenging problems to enhance their skills. These students are confident in their abilities and are eager to showcase their proficiency in the exams. With their hard work and dedication, they are well-prepared to tackle the math assessments and excel in their academic endeavours.

Throughout Key Stage 3 math classes in recent weeks, the main focus has been on angles. Students have been learning how to identify, measure, and calculate different types of angles. By studying angles, students are developing important problem-solving skills and logical thinking abilities.

Understanding angles is essential for various math concepts and real-world applications, making it a fundamental topic to grasp during this stage of education.

Congratulations to the following Year 9,10 and 11 students who achieved Gold, Silver or Bronze in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. See pictures below of our Junior Mathletes deep in thought as we as our Intermediate certificate winners.
