Dear Parents,

It has been a wonderful start to the academic year, and it has been fantastic to see our students return with such enthusiasm, positivity and readiness to learn. Across both campuses, students are already making the most of the many opportunities available to them, whether in the classroom, through sport, leadership initiatives or our wider enrichment programme.

In this edition, we are delighted to introduce three new members of our Secondary teaching team. We welcome Guilhem Chene to Modern Foreign Languages, Amber Whyatt to Mathematics, and are pleased to welcome Matthew Hughes back to the Science Department. Each brings a wealth of experience, expertise and passion for education, and we are excited to have them join our community.

Beyond the classroom, our sporting season has already begun, with our U14 Girls Volleyball team demonstrating impressive resilience, teamwork and determination in their opening fixtures. We are also thrilled by the tremendous response to Student Leadership Council applications, which highlights the enthusiasm of our students to make a positive contribution to school life and develop their leadership skills.

As preparations continue for Enrichment Week and upcoming trips and events, I would like to thank families for their ongoing support and partnership. These experiences play a vital role in helping students develop confidence, independence, and a global outlook.

Introducing Our New Staff:

Guilhem Chene – Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages

Originally from the French Alps, I was educated in France and the UK and hold two master's degrees. As a passionate linguist, educator, and technology enthusiast, I have dedicated my career to exploring how innovation can enhance teaching and learning, drawing on over 15 years of experience in education, including educational research in Guernsey, UK.

Throughout my career, I have held a range of positions spanning educational technology, curriculum development, professional learning, and leadership as Head of Modern Foreign Languages. Having lived in more than seven countries and speaking over seven languages, I bring a global perspective to education. With over 10 years of experience teaching the IB Diploma Programme, I am a strong advocate for developing international-mindedness and the global competencies students need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

I recently joined Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong and am excited to contribute to its diverse and internationally minded community.

Matthew Hughes – Teacher of Science

I am delighted to be returning to the Science Department at Nord Anglia International School, Hong Kong, six years after leaving to start a family in the UK. It’s exciting to be rejoining a school community that has grown significantly and become even more vibrant since I last taught here.

Originally from the Northwest of England, I graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Salford in 2009 before beginning my teaching career in 2012. Since then, I have gained experience in high-achieving schools across England, Hong Kong and Dubai. My approach to teaching is practical and engaging, with a focus on making science clear, relevant and accessible to every student.

Outside the classroom, much of my time is spent with my two children. When I do get some free time, I enjoy reading, hiking and playing football.

Amber Whyatt – Teacher of Maths

Hello! I am Miss Whyatt, and I am thrilled to join the school as a Mathematics teacher.

I studied Mathematics and Accounting at A-Level where I learned my love for numbers and deep mathematical thinking, which led me to my Mathematics degree from the University of Brighton.

My teaching career began in the UK, then I moved internationally where I taught in Kuwait for 4 years. Working across different educational environments has given me a global perspective on how students learn. I am enthusiastic about sharing my passion for mathematics and want every child to enjoy learning about mathematics.

Outside the classroom, I love sports, with my background in gymnastics. As a former competitive athlete and coach, I have an appreciation for resilience and encouraging young people to push past their limits.

I look forward in supporting our students with their journey in mathematics this year.

Sports Updates – Miss. Wiltshire

Welcome back to our Sports Updates! Season 1 gets underway this week with U14 & U16 Volleyball, U14 Football, and U16 Netball. Keep an eye on parent updates for weekly match reports, results, and team highlights!

Match Reports

U14 Girls Volleyball
Our U14 Girls Volleyball Team showed great resilience and teamwork at this week's matches at AISHK. Despite a difficult first match against a strong AISHK side, the girls remained positive and continued to work hard throughout the competition.

Their determination was evident in a much-improved performance against HKA, where they battled through three competitive sets and narrowly missed out on the win.

A special mention goes to Isabella, who scored an impressive 12 points from her serves, and Ayumi, who contributed 4 service points. Well done also to Ayla for an outstanding block that was one of the highlights of the day.

As Mary Anne Radmacher says "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.'"
Well done to all our U14 girls for their effort, commitment, and positive attitude throughout their first matches of the season.

U13 FOBISIA Games

Dear Parents,

We are delighted to announce that we plan to take part in the U13 FOBISIA Games in Thailand from 22nd February to 26th February 2027.

An email with key information and a registration form link was emailed to all parents on Wednesday 26th August.

If you missed the registration deadline, please email a member of the PE department.

Student Leadership – Student Leadership Committee

We are delighted to announce that applications for the Student Leadership Council (SLC) for the 2026/27 academic year are now open and have been for the past week. We are also thrilled to share that we have already received over 177 applications and counting across both the Kwun Tong and Hung Hom Campus, a testament to the enthusiasm and leadership potential within our student body.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to take on leadership roles, contribute meaningfully to school life, and build a lasting legacy within our community.

We are currently seeking both Committee Leaders and Committee Members across a wide range of committees:

Community & Events, AI, Environment, EDIB, Wellbeing, SDGs, Sports, STEAM, House, Music, English, and Science.

Committee Member positions available for:
Community & Events, STEAM, Environment, House, EDIB, Music, Wellbeing, SDGs, Science, Sports, Art, and Drama.

We are particularly encouraging students to apply for the SDGs, EDIB, and Wellbeing committees, as we look to strengthen our focus on sustainability, inclusion, and student wellness across the school.

We would like to remind all students that applications will close on Friday, 4th September at 15:30. We encourage interested students to submit their applications promptly.

As we count down the days to Enrichment Week, we wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support and trust throughout the planning process. It has been a pleasure working alongside you, and we are truly excited about the wonderful experiences that await your children. A quick reminder that new sign-ups and changes to local and international trip selections are now closed.

We are pleased to confirm that final balance amounts will be sent to you via email this week. We are currently awaiting the last cost confirmations from our external providers, and as soon as these are received, we will notify you directly. Please keep an eye on your inbox for this important update.

We understand that the registration forms were previously shared in the Parent Update, but due to a temporary technical issue with two of the links, we had to remove them.
