Secondary Campus Weekly Update 7 Sep 2026

Dear Parents,

It has been another fantastic week for our students as we welcomed our Regional Managing Director, Stuart White, to the school. House Spirit was in full swing throughout the week, and Stuart was highly impressed by the enthusiasm, confidence and engagement of our brilliant students. It was wonderful to see learners actively participating in their lessons across campus, demonstrating the curiosity, resilience and positive attitude that make our school such a special place to be.

This week, we are delighted to be welcoming our Year 12 and 13 parents to the launch of our fantastic Hung Hom Sixth Form Campus. This exciting milestone marks another important step in the development of our thriving Sixth Form community, and we look forward to sharing our vision for the future with families.

Introducing our New Teachers:

Antonia Kucharova – Mathematics

Bringing a wealth of international teaching experience spanning Slovakia, the UK, and Russia, I deeply enjoy adapting to new environments and learning from different cultures. This global perspective allows me to connect meaningfully with a diverse range of students and cultivate a highly engaging, inclusive classroom.

I am passionate about helping students discover a lifelong love for learning while providing a thorough, informative, and enriching educational experience. I firmly believe that a happy, supportive school environment lays the foundation for successful adults who go on to make a positive impact on the world. In my classroom, I foster this positive atmosphere by establishing clear expectations and mutual trust.

I hold a master's degree in physics and psychology, as well as a doctorate in mathematics from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Slovakia.

Sam Bell – Humanities

Hello! My name is Sam Bell, and I am thrilled to join the Humanities department at NAIS HK this year. I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2014 with a PGCE in Secondary History and have since taught a wide range of Humanities subjects including History, Geography and Politics, across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

I recently relocated to Hong Kong after living in Dubai for five years, where I taught most recently at Nord Anglia International School, Dubai. Alongside my classroom teaching in both the UK and Dubai, I have held leadership positions such as Head of Year and Head of Department. These roles have deepened my commitment to fostering student wellbeing, personal growth, and academic achievement.

As an avid traveler, I am eager to explore this vibrant part of the world even further in the years ahead. Above all, I am deeply passionate about teaching and the impact of the classroom. I cannot wait to meet our young historians and geographers this year and watch them flourish!

Thomas Smith – Science

I am delighted to be joining the Science Department at NAIS HK this year and becoming part of such a diverse and internationally minded community. Originally from London, I hold degrees in Biomedical Science, Infectious Disease Control and Leadership in Education, and have taught science and mathematics in international schools across the UK, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong. Before entering teaching, I worked in scientific research and was fortunate to publish research in the field of infectious diseases, an experience that continues to enrich my classroom practice today.

My passion for science lies in helping students develop curiosity, critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them through engaging, practical and inquiry-based learning experiences. Outside of school, I enjoy travelling, hiking, reading and keeping up to date with developments in science and technology.

I am very much looking forward to working with students and families and supporting each child as they develop confidence and success in science.

The NAIS Hong Kong community is proud to celebrate our very own Miss Campbell’s recent selection to represent the Hong Kong Football Club Netball Team. As someone who is new to Hong Kong, this achievement reflects her exceptional dedication, talent and passion for netball.

Miss Campbell has an outstanding sporting background, having competed at national level and earned a Level 2 Netball Coaching Qualification. Alongside her success as a player, she is passionate about coaching and inspiring young athletes to develop both their skills and their love of sport.

Miss Campbell’s achievements include winning the Dubai 7s Mixed Netball Final in 2025 and lifting the Scottish Cup trophy with her team in 2024, demonstrating her experience at the highest levels of competition. She is also excited to support the continued growth of netball at NAIS Hong Kong and to help develop the next generation of players.

We congratulate Miss Campbell on this fantastic accomplishment and wish her every success in the season ahead.

Executive Functioning: Parent Event – Ms. Shaikh

Executive Functioning: How is it linked to academic and life success?

Parents of students in Year 4-8 - Join us for a parent talk exploring executive functioning skills and their impact on children's learning, behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and long-term success. Dr Minna Chau will share practical, evidence-based strategies that parents can use to support their children both at home and at school. For more information and to register for this event, please refer to the email shared with you on 1st September. Please note that this is strictly an RSVP event.

The Year Ahead Events – Dr. Curley

We are pleased to invite parents to our upcoming The Year Ahead: Parent Partnership Evenings for Years 7 to 11. These are parent only events designed to provide parents with a clear overview of the year ahead, including key academic and non-academic milestones, expectations, support structures, and opportunities for students.

The evenings will also provide an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s tutor, learn more about the year group roadmap, and connect with other parents in their child’s tutor group.

Parents are reminded to register their attendance by Tuesday, 8th September at 4:30pm.

Please note that the Year 11 - The Year Ahead: Parent Partnership Evening will take place on Tuesday, 22nd September 2026 at the NAIS HK Sixth Form Campus in Hung Hom. Parents are invited to arrive from 4:30pm to explore the campus, with the main event taking place from 5:00pm to 6:15pm.

The PTA will be hosting a pre-loved uniform sale at the Year 7 to Year 10 Parent Partnership Evenings at the Kwun Tong Campus. The sale will begin at 4:30pm, before the main event starts, giving parents the opportunity to browse and purchase uniform items if they wish.

Season 1 Match Reports

U16 Girls Netball

Our U16 Girls Netball team kicked off their season on Monday with an impressive opening match against Harrow. Every team member took to the court, executing their role with focus and determination.

Throughout the competitive contest, the girls showcased remarkable enthusiasm and high-level play, ultimately securing a well-earned draw. It was a fantastic display of skill and teamwork, setting a promising tone for the rest of the term.

Congratulations to the U16 team on a great performance, we look forward to seeing their continued progress this season!

U14 Girls Volleyball

The U14 girls team showed great determination and teamwork. In the first match against CAIS, they lost the opening set but bounced back strongly to win the second. The deciding third set was incredibly close, ending 15-12 in favour of CAIS. It was wonderful to see the girls encouraging each other and fighting hard until the very end.

In the second match against DC, the team started strong by winning the first set. Despite their efforts, they dropped the second set and lost the third 15-5. The girls were clearly tired but gave their absolute best, showing resilience and commitment.

Special mention goes to Ayla for her amazing block, Isabella for her powerful spike, and Ayumi who scored six points in a row on her serve. These moments highlight the massive improvement the team has made, and the girls themselves mentioned how much they enjoyed the games.

Overall, the team displayed excellent sportsmanship and spirit. I am so proud of their effort and the way they supported one another on court.

U14 Boys Volleyball

The U14 Boys Volleyball team made a brilliant start to the season with a dominant friendly win against MCHK. Playing on a smaller court meant the boys had to adapt quickly, but they showed real courage, adjusted their technique and rose to the challenge. Their connection was excellent, with strong communication allowing them to work as a team and truly thrive, taking the first set 25–12.

The second set began with a flying start and some fantastic three-hit combinations. Although they lost a little flow at times, with a few mishaps at the net, the boys refused to give up and secured the set 25–23.

They carried this momentum into their league match against ASHK, dominating early with well-adjusted serves, controlled play, powerful spikes and clever tips. ASHK pushed them hard, but the boys held firm to win 25–19 and 25–23. With two outstanding wins, they are truly Being Ambitious and aiming for gold!

U14 Boys Football

The NAIS Knights U14 Boys Football team kicked off their season with an impressive 5 0 victory over YCIS in hot and humid conditions. After a slow start, the boys grew into the game and began creating promising chances. Sihoon was the first to find the net, calmly finishing to give the Knights the lead. YCIS continued to push forward and created several scoring opportunities, but strong saves from Oscar kept the Knights 1 0 up at half time.

With a deep and quality squad, the Knights were able to rotate their bench effectively, keeping players rested without dropping the overall quality of the team. In the second half, the Knights took full control. Further goals from Sihoon, completing his hat trick, along with strikes from Hugo and Sherdan, allowed the Knights to run out convincing 5 0 winners in a fantastic, open match to begin their season.

U14 Girls Football

Our U14 girls football team put the disappointment of last Thursday’s match postponement because of the rain behind them as they took on American International School at Kowloon Tsai Park.

A mixture of experience from last with our Year 9 players was blended with a number of debutants from Year 8.

A strong performance in both halves saw some fine stops by Emma making her debut in goal, growing confidence from the defense in timing their tackles well, some excellent possession play in midfield using the pivot player to switch play from wing to wing, and aggressive running in attack putting the opposition defense under pressure.

The final score of 6-2 reflects the control the team had and could well have been more if not for a strong performance from the AIS goalkeeper.

Well done to all players and notably Amara who scored a hat-trick (3 goals).

U16 Boys Volleyball

The U16 boys’ volleyball team’s first match went well, even though they lost the first game of the day. They showed real character and determination, proving they have what it takes to be a winning side. After coming back in the second set from 20–12 down, they ultimately fell short by just five points, losing 25–20.

The second game today was a highly competitive match, with both teams winning a set each and forcing a decisive third set. There were standout performances throughout the team, particularly from Preston, whose serving run made a real difference. The match also highlighted areas we can improve, while demonstrating the team’s strength and determination to push through and secure the win.

Across both games today, we saw the group grow together—building confidence, finding their rhythm, and competing with purpose as a collective. With that momentum, we can look forward to more victories in the future.
