NAIS Pudong Scholarships
Our recent journey to Guizhou was an inspiring blend of cultural exchange, sustainable learning, and community impact, deeply aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The donations of clothing and toys from our school community were warmly received by the people of Dadai and Huanggang villages. These contributions directly supported SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, helping to address local needs. The trip also highlighted SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as we witnessed the communities’ resourcefulness and the significance of traditional crafts to their livelihoods.
A memorable highlight of the trip was the bonfire celebration in the drum tower of one of the five families. Students and villagers sang and danced together around the fire pit, while the family’s traditional water buffalo stood as a powerful symbol of their enduring agricultural heritage. This event beautifully reflected SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, showcasing the importance of preserving cultural traditions in a modern context.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about the region’s sustainable rice paddy ecosystem, a practical demonstration of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. In this system, fish consume bacteria, ducks naturally control pests while their droppings fertilise the soil, creating a harmonious, chemical-free cycle. This innovative method supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and contributes to SDG 2: Zero Hunger by fostering healthier food systems.
The experience of creating batiks with local artisans further connected us to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as students explored the importance of preserving traditional industries through sustainable practices.
This trip exemplified SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as our school collaborated with WildChina and local communities to achieve meaningful outcomes. It reinforced the value of working together to build a more equitable, sustainable future, while leaving students with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation of global citizenship.
Thank you to everyone who supported this incredible journey—it was a celebration of culture, community, and the shared responsibility of caring for our world.
In the final of our series of alumni spotlight articles, we speak with Matthew Ward, a professional football player in England who spent six years at NAIS Pudong before departing in 2019 to take up his current role as an elite sports star!
At NAIS Pudong, we strive to achieve our values, one element of which is building confidence in our students to help them better prepare for life after education. But what about building the confidence to question one’s approach and strategy in tacking tasks or ideas?
On the last day of Term One, Principal Diane Vaughan conducted the termly Principal's Awards, this time celebrating the outstanding contributions of students who exemplify one of the school's core values of being considerate.
On 9th and 10th of December years 7-9 students were given the chance to debate on a given present-day topic. A debate is a structured discussion where individuals present and defend their viewpoints on a topic, aiming to persuade others with well-supported arguments.
