On Thursday 5 December, our classrooms were once again filled with excited families as we hosted our Term 1 Showcase. This much-loved event invited parents into school to learn more about their child’s progress and to experience the vibrant learning taking place across Early Years, Primary and, for the first time, Secondary.
The Showcase is designed to give students the opportunity to take the lead. Children and young people explained their learning, demonstrated new skills and guided parents through activities linked to this term’s curriculum themes. Across the school, every year group shared something different, yet the same spirit of confidence and pride could be felt in every room.
Our youngest learners delighted parents with a range of festive and creative tasks, from cranberry muffin baking and snowman pinecone crafts in Early Years to gingerbread decorating, clay Christmas trees and story sharing in Key Stage 1. As well as enjoying the activities, children confidently talked about their ideas, growing independence and the new vocabulary they had learned.

Further up the school, Years 3 and 4 showcased scientific investigation and hands-on STEAM tasks. Parents joined in animal classification challenges, habitat experiments and a lively Kahoot quiz, while also exploring 3D printing, pottery and board games designed by the students themselves.
In Years 5 and 6, the focus moved to high-level thinking and communication. Students presented persuasive writing, debated rainforest issues, shared Stone Age research and performed poetry. They also led parents through maths and science demonstrations, showing impressive maturity, oracy and leadership.

Families visiting Secondary classrooms were met with the same atmosphere of curiosity and creativity.
Year 7 Art introduced parents to the intricate Chinese craft of paper filigree, as students transformed simple strips of paper into delicate three-dimensional sculptures. The focus on precision, patience and design allowed students to demonstrate how technical skill underpins future work in areas such as engineering and sculpture.
Year 8 Languages took parents on a global journey, with students running interactive games and quizzes about Chinese, French and Spanish-speaking cultures. Their confident communication and cultural comparison skills highlighted the importance of global awareness and empathy in language learning.
In Year 9 Maths and Computer Science, students tackled complex code-breaking challenges and mathematical transformations, demonstrating computational thinking, pattern recognition and resilience as they worked through tricky puzzles.
Year 10 English showcased multimodal storytelling, with students sharing narrative writing supported by visuals, sound and set design inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Their ability to explain how they crafted meaning for a specific audience reflected impressive maturity and creativity.
Finally, Year 12 Science offered a glimpse into advanced scientific practice. Senior students led parents through self-designed practical investigations across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, demonstrating rigorous experimental design, technical skill and thoughtful analysis.
Throughout the event, our students, from PN to Year 12, showed confidence, curiosity and pride in their learning. The Showcase offered families a meaningful opportunity to see not just the outcomes of the term, but the thinking, skill-building and collaboration that sit behind every piece of work.

Thank you to all parents who joined us. Your enthusiasm made this celebration of learning even more special for our students.
