As the only international school in Jakarta offering the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) blended with the English National Curriculum, we are proud to bring learning to life through real-world connections. This trip was the ideal way to conclude our Chocolate unit. At the factory, the students discovered more about the fascinating history of chocolate and were inspired by Baldwin, the owner, who shared how he built his chocolate business from nothing into a company that now sells its products globally. The students were especially excited to learn that — just like Willy Wonka — Baldwin is an inventor, currently working on his own secret ingredient for a brand-new chocolate bar that has never been released before!

This linked deliciously to their own entrepreneurial project in school, where the students created their own chocolate brands. They invented names, logos and slogans, designed eye-catching wrappers and produced digital billboard-style advertisements using a media design app. Through this, they developed creativity, collaboration skills and a deeper understanding of marketing and product design.

The visit itself was full of energy and excitement. The students even learned Baldwin's dance to the Chocolate Song before touring the factory! Seeing the bean-to-bar (or as we like to say, tree-to-treat!) process in action helped consolidate their classroom learning in a meaningful and memorable way.

For the pièce de résistance, each student had the opportunity to shape their own chocolate bar and choose their own ingredients. These personalised creations were later delivered to school, ready to be shared and enjoyed with their families (we hope!)
A truly chocolatey crescendo to an unforgettable IPC unit!
