This week the Grade 12 IB Diploma students at NISC complete a major milestone in their DP journey: the submission of the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay. This 1,600-word essay is the culmination of two years of reading, study and thought, centered around the question of “how do we know what we claim to know?”. Some people may feel that this question is either so obvious as to not warrant discussion, or so opaque as to be unanswerable. TOK students strive to uncover their own, and others’ cognitive biases, assumptions and intellectual blind spots in order to create a firm foundation on which to build their intellectual world as lifelong learners.

One of the key goals of the IB programmes is to promote intercultural understanding but what does this really mean and how can it be achieved in our language classes at NISC?

As children grow, we help them to develop greater age-appropriate independence; they gradually learn important life skills such as decision-making, time-management and social skills. They learn how to live and work with others, and they learn how to make safe choices that help them to live happier and more successful lives.

Just over two years ago, Cambodia had its first Covid-19 case, and since that time, our students at Northbridge have being demonstrating their resilience, adjusting to new ways of learning, and continuing to strive to achieve their best. They should be commended for their adaptability and the overall positivity they have maintained.

There is so much new technology entering the education sector these days it is almost hard to keep track of. Here at Northbridge, we strive to review and refine what we use in class constantly. To assist with this, we use the SAMR model which is a framework created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura to categorise four different types of technology integration in the classroom.

Grade 1 have spent weeks perfecting their own Traction Man stories. Using the Book Creator app, they have written their own exciting tales with the beloved characters, Traction Man and Scrubbing Brush, from the popular stories by Mini Grey.

As a teacher, a parent and a grade level leader at Northbridge International School Cambodia, I am a great proponent for teaching children to advocate for themselves. Self advocacy helps foster independence and success. Self advocacy means students speak up for themselves, ask for what they need, and ask for help. Many of our students have expressed low confidence in communicating with teachers and advocating for what they need.

Recently, Grade 2 students at Northbridge International School Cambodia finished their Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry. In this online unit, the children came to learn how plants, animals and people are all connected and depend on each other to survive.

Early Learning teachers at Northbridge International School Cambodia are expert at understanding young children’s behavior and creating developmentally appropriate learning environments.

Self-efficacy is the belief that you can manage a task or a situation and influences our opinions, feelings, behaviours, and motivation. The United Nations created a universal framework to assist schools and educators to develop best practice for all learners, including all students with barriers to learning.

Spirit Week is a week when we have fun at Northbridge International School Cambodia dressing up and celebrating and letting creativity flow free. During Spirit Week we celebrate our Nagas school spirit, aiming to embrace ourselves and help make everybody happy.

Learning a language in the IB involves much more than mastering vocabulary and grammar. In MYP at Northbridge International School Cambodia, students learn through the lens of four key concepts: communication, connections, creativity and culture. They learn how to communicate in a variety of contexts and have the opportunity to explore the role of language in ‘Identity and relationships’. The aim is that they develop sociocultural competences and can interact with sensitivity.

What an exciting start to the year it has been in the primary arts department at Northbridge International School Cambodia, although not without its challenges.

Here at Northbridge International School Cambodia we would like to identify from within our school community those parents who could offer our secondary school students future encounters with the world of work. This could include work placements or internships, work experience or other employer-based activities such as talks or visits.

STEAM refers to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. STEAM education is becoming an increasingly important part of a modern curriculum, and at Northbridge International School Cambodia we recognise the benefits that a focus on this area can deliver to our students.
