Week 2 at Summer School

13 juli 2014

Week 2 of Summer School saw the arrival of the heat and lots more work and play.

This week four more students joined our Cambridge Young Learner (CYL) programme. Students continued to work and play hard, enjoying their Starter, Mover and Flyer lessons learning lots of new vocabulary and English structure.

The older ones on the General English course seem very focussed on their academic English lessons too. In Mandarin, the students made some great posters about different topics and continued to improve their spoken Mandarin with a lot of speaking practice.

All students on Friday morning went to Oriental Land to enjoy the park surroundings and the rope cages to scramble around on. It was a bit hot but there was plenty of water to go round and lots of ice cream being consumed!

Looking forward to the final week, there are the CYL exams for the 6-11 year olds. The speaking is on Wednesday morning and the reading, writing and listening on Thursday morning. On Friday there will be a final assembly at about 2pm in the auditorium for all students in Secondary, where we will celebrate their achievements over the course of the summer school and students will receive their completion certificates.

From our Primary Explorers

More fun and games and more things to explore for our young and brave explorers last week.

We talked about how we could go to all the exciting places that we want to see and each class collaboratively built a vehicle of their choice. The Astronauts built a rocket, the Octonauts a submarine and the Jungle explorers built a multi-purpose bus that also doubled up as a train when needed!

We also had a chance to see transport in action during our educational trip and the children were excited to survey the number of cars, buses, bikes and other vehicles that we saw on our way to the Aquarium.

We were awe struck by the beauty and elegance of the beluga whales who swam and waved so gracefully. We marched on bravely through the sun and the heat to the Amazonian Rainforest themed Aquarium. We all pointed excitedly at the amazing array of colours, teeth, fins, eyes, scales and tails.

There is a busy final week ahead for the Little Explorers. We will be talking about human and animal bodies and names of different body parts. How do people move? How do the animals move?

We will end the week with an assembly where the children will receive their certificates. Well done, Explorers!
