Help Us to Help Nepal in Primary

13 mei 2015

Niki Meehan, Head of Primary: You will all be aware of the terrible events that are happening in Nepal as a result of the recent earthquakes.

This beautiful but poor country has been devastated and the United Nations has estimated that the disaster has affected 8 million people across the Himalayan region. More than 1.4 million people are believed to be in urgent need of food assistance and many of them have been left homeless, with homes, schools, hospitals and whole villages being completely destroyed.

Here at BISS Puxi we have been discussing this situation with our students and all feel strongly that as a school community we want to offer whatever support we can to the people of Nepal. We want to raise funds to help with the immediate needs of food, water, medicine and blankets and then to continue to raise funds to help with some of the reconstruction work that is going to be needed over the coming months.

The secondary students have activated themselves and put together a programme of fund raising over the next few weeks and in primary, we also have a schedule of events and are looking for your support.

Badge and Bracelet Sale

From Monday 18 – Friday 22 May at break and lunchtimes we will be selling Support Nepal Badges (designed by Lowa and Sophia in Year 5) and charity wrist bands (10RMB per item)

Bake Sales

Students to donate goodies and bring money to buy some delicious treats (5-10RMB per item).

  • Tuesday 19 May - 8:30am – 10:30am - Early Years Cubs with parents
  • Thursday 21 May – Year 5 & 6 Bake Sale  - break and lunchtimes
  • Friday 22 May – Year 3 & 4 Bake Sale  - break and lunchtimes
  • Friday 22 May – Year 1 & 2 - break and lunchtimes

We hope that students and parents will really embrace this fundraising and be generous with donations and participation in the different activities being organised. We want to be able to make a difference and so encourage you to talk with your children about this terrible situation. Please help them realise that we all have a responsibility to help others less fortunate than ourselves and that every little step we can do will help in a practical way and also show the people of Nepal that people care about their situation.

All funds raised will be donated to a reputable charity working in Nepal to provide basic supplies to those in urgent need.

Thanks in advance for your support and generosity.

- Niki Meehan, Head of Primary
