Maybe of the students were able to play several notes from the C major scale and could play various simple pieces. In Year 4, meanwhile, students enjoyed studying the Juilliard Chinese music examples and created their own battle scene music! Students began by composing with a pentatonic scale for a peaceful village scene and then used percussion instruments to demonstrate an attack on the village. In Year 5, students have been creating music on Macbooks in Garageband and this week focused on creating scary music by experimenting with the vast amount of timbres available in the software. They were excited to see how powerful computers can be in music creation. In Year 6, students completed their flute topic and created some excellent pieces using the notes they had learnt. 6B even played some flute pieces for their class assembly! In Year 8 students have also been studying Chinese music and have learnt about traditional instruments and their applications. Meanwhile, in Year 9 students have studied ‘La Boheme’, Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ and ‘Rent’. They compared and contrasted the musical elements of these pieces and also completed performances of their own choice of stage music.
