Full STEAM Ahead!

03 mei 2017

It was an early start for the MIT STEAM students on Sunday as we prepared for our marathon journey to Boston for the NAE STEAMFEST.

After meeting the team from Pudong, the BISS Puxi team, Emma, Alison, Liam and Iwan, swapped stories of how they applied for the trip and what they were most looking forward to.

Day 1 saw the team working in the Novartis labs in the morning, learning about synthetic biology. They greatly enjoyed creating new cells and trying to develop a banana scented fluid. The afternoon involved a team building game at Boda Borg during which the students had to understand and overcome challenges, not dissimilar to Mr X or the Crystal Maze.

Day 2 has been about learning to be a pirate. The team engaged in different activities to develop their pirating skills in fencing and archery, whilst also understanding the science of cannons.

We still have many exciting activities to undertake including a mechanical engineering challenge and a visit to Harvard. You will hear much more from the MIT group, but for the time being it is full STEAM ahead to the next activity.
