November Celebrations in the Primary School

Another busy few weeks have gone by here at BISS Puxi Primary and yet again we have so much to celebrate.

Following on from our inaugural Year 3 camping trip in Nanjing, we had the Year 5 and 6 Academic Olympiad in Guangzhou. Mr Rutherford and Mrs Khan took a group of sixteen students to participate in this competitive and highly challenging competition that saw our Year 6 team reach second place, narrowly missing out to The British International School, Beijing Shunyi. Our Year 5 team were placed third, an excellent achievement and well done to all!

Our student leadership team continues to strengthen once again under Ms Caldwell’s guidance and we welcome to the team the new House Captains and Vice Captains who will look for ways in which we can make our house system even stronger. For the first time, we have invited Year 5 students to join the team and made the decision that they will hold the House Captain roles so that, moving forward, we have an even stronger leadership capacity. Yet again, this was an incredibly difficult decision to make and all followed a rigorous process including a letter of application and, for those shortlisted, an interview with me. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed connecting with our students and was impressed by both their maturity and confidence.

Last week in the Primary School, following on from our first set of reports this year, we hosted our term 1 Student Parent Teacher Conferences during which parents and teachers all had a very valuable opportunity to discuss students’ progress. A big thank you to all who attended, and especially our IB students and Learning Assistants who assisted with our translation needs.

We finished the week with our annual charity Christmas Fair and look forward to the upcoming week which promises even more enjoyment and excitement with our Reception and Pre-Nursery Christmas shows and we will end the week with our whole-school STEAM showcase ‘Elemental Con’. Students have worked incredibly hard this term and have produced some outstanding work. Please do come along on Friday 5 December from 2pm – 3pm, we would love to see you!
