How do children learn?

Every child is different. Every child learns differently. The skill of our experienced teachers is to explore deeply the interests and learning patterns of the child and adapt the learning experience for each individual. At BISS Puxi, we call this personalised learning.

Learning by Doing

To learn actively, is to learn well and BISS Puxi encourages learning by ‘doing’ as part of our whole school curriculum. We have found that, whatever the age group, children who are actively engaged in their learning, learn better. Encouraging children to put theories to the test helps them understand and internalise their learning.

In Early Years, our team focuses on learning through play. Our youngest students think they are playing but in fact, each activity has been meticulously planned with clear learning objectives, based upon the UK Early Years Curriculum. Our little ones love coming to BISS and they develop a love for learning too.

  • Our Nursery Cubs have been busy engaging in a wide range of exciting learning opportunities on the theme of growth.
  • In Year 1, the children have been working collaboratively on a Maths challenge to make a huge number line.
  • In Year 2 STEAM lessons, we are learning to explore different artistic media.

Engaged & Independent Learners

Hands-on active learning creates engaged learners. Across the school, our Music classes in collaboration with Juilliard, encourage our students to explore music in different ways. Our MIT STEAM challenges inspire innovative minds and our Art classes develop creative thinking.

Independent learners motivate themselves to excel in their chosen discipline. At BISS Puxi, this starts with understanding children deeply and by creating engaging hands-on learning opportunities for our students to grow.

  • In Year 1 today, we developed out understanding of number through the use of the part-whole model.
  • Year 10 students heating hydrated copper (II) sulphate
  • Key Stage 3 artists have started the ambitious task of upcycling all of your unwanted goods to Steam Punk creepy crawlies!
  • Year 13s have been learning about sources of finance during the finance unit.

Does it really work?

For the past four years, over 60% of grades awarded to our students at IGCSE level were A or A*- the very highest grades at this level. Our IB Diploma Programme students scored an average of 37 points; 7 points above the global average. 1 in 4 students achieved over 40 points, giving them access to the world's top universities.
