- There will be a Korean Coffee Morning on Wednesday from 9.00 to 11am.
- Could we please ask that children do not wear tights on swimming days. They are very difficult for the children and all staff would really appreciate the extra support with this. Thanks!
This week we are following the children’s interest in traditional tales and continuing to encorporate this theme into our Nursery unit and learning areas. With help from the children you can see our classrooms transforming and you can feel the enthusiasm. They have built homes for all three pigs using cardboard boxes, and then become the wolf themselves and huffed and puffed the houses down. Or they have retold the story of Goldilocks and Three Bears using sound instruments and body percussion! This week we will extend their learning by encouraging questioning to better their understanding of the characters and their actions, as well as, thinking about where the characters really live. While talking about the story of the ‘three little pigs’ and the ‘three bears’ we have been thinking about the characters as real people. But where do bears and pigs live in the real world?
EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN
The Nursery students have been working on constructing and designing with a purpose in mind. Therefore, this week the children will be encouraged to independently recreate the stories they have learned about so far. For example, exploring colour mixing to achieve the colour they desire to paint a house for a pig or use different textured materials to create their own character mask. Let’s see what amazing designs emerge!
Key Vocabulary: materials, cut, stick, tape, staples, masking tape, mixing.
In Maths, our focus will be on 2D and 3D shapes. The children will practise recognising these shapes and their properties within our classrooms and outside in our environment. What shape does that object look like? Is it round? Is it tall? How many sides and corners does it have?
Key vocabulary: Triangle, square, circle, rectangle, solid, 2D, 3D, flat, round, side and corner.
COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY
The Nursery children have become wonderful story tellers and have creatively discussed their own alternative endings to some traditional tales. This week we will be extending their understanding by involving the children in many listening and questioning activities. For example, the teachers will become a character from a tale and invite the children to ask questions of our character. Through listening to hints, asking “ What, When, How, Why” and recalling the stories; the children will soon discover who we are!
Key Vocabulary: What, who, when, how, Character and Story.
