LEARNING THEME

To start our new term with a bang we will begin a new theme of emergency services. Following on from the childrens interests we will be learning about fire fighters, police men and ambulances! Who do we call when there is a fire? Who will come if we need to go to hospital?  Do these vehicles look the same? Do they sound the same?

This will also bring us on to the people who help us locally. Our security guards help protect us in school and the ayis help keep us clean and healthy! Who else helps us in school or at home?

This week in our mathematical focus will be looking at 2D and 3D shapes, using the language ‘solid’(3D) and ‘flat’ (2D). Using recycled materials, wooden blocks and other construction equipment  we will create emergency vehicles using visual aids to support us. Are the shapes solid? Can you find a flat shape? What makes them different?

Key Vocabulary: flat, solid, 2D, 3D

As I am sure you would expect there will be lots of roleplay around  fire fighters and other helpers. We will provide the children with a ‘burning building’ to give the children a starting point for their play. How can we put out the fire? Who do we need to call? We will encourage the children to think about the props they need and create some of their own!

As the weather gets  warmer more and more of our seeds will start popping up! We will be teaching the children to care for the world around them by watering the plants each day and tenderly wating for them to grow. I wonder what we will have to eat by the summer?

De oom van Jules heeft een kinderboerderij.  Jules mag deze week helpen met het voederen  en verzorgen van de dieren.  We kijken mee met Jules welke dieren er op de boerderij te vinden zijn en luisteren naar de geluiden die ze maken!

We will be introducing the Chinese traditional holiday “Qing Ming Festival”.
