MESSAGES

  • We have been having quite a warm spring in Shanghai this year!  As the days get sunnier, please send in a hat for your child to help protect their skin and eyes.  We also recommend applying sunscreen in the morning before arriving at school to ensure your child will not get sunburnt. It can also be wet so make sure your child has a light weight raincoat in their bag ready in case of a sudden rain shower.
  • We are always looking for ways to improve the safety of the children, particularly at home time.  At present we are trialing a new system, which may be slower but is safer.  Thank you for your understanding and support.

LEARNING THEME:  Teddy Bears

The children have had lots of exciting experiences this week learning the story of “We are Going on a Bear Hunt”, next week we will look at the Bear Family in greater depth. How many types of bears do we know? What are their names? What are their likes/dislikes? What do they eat? Where do they live? We will also continue to read a range of bear themed books, with the story “Whatever Next” being our main story focus. This magical story by award-winning author Jill Murphy tells us about Baby Bear and his adventure to the moon. Baby Bear wants to go to the moon, so he searches around the house until he finds a rocket (a cardboard box), a space-helmet (a colander) and space-boots (his wellies). All set, he blasts off out of the chimney and into the night.  We will discuss with the children; how did he get to the moon? Who did he meet on the way? What did he take with him? What did they do on the moon? What happened when he got home?

Personal, social and emotional development

We have been very pleased to see how the children’s confidence and independence has increased over time, and to witness their friendships blooming as the school year progresses. However, conflicts do occasionally arise, and we will spend some time discussing with the children how to resolve conflicts peacefully. We will talk about how they feel in different situations. What is like to be kind and gentle? How do you feel when people are gentle/ kind/ mean/unfriendly to you? What should we do when our friends do something that makes us unhappy?

Key Vocabulary:  kind, gentle, helpful, feel, sad, happy
