Week Beginning 5 April 2016

Wishing everybody a fun filled and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 5th April ready and refreshed for term 3!

  • Please remember to read your reading book over the holiday and have a quick practise of your phonics cards over the holiday.

At the beginning of this new term we are going to start a new unit of inquiry.  You might notice some differences in the reception area and in the classrooms from Wednesday onwards. What do you see? Where might we be? I wonder what we might be learning about and exploring?

Our Big Question is: shhhhh it’s a secret!  What do you think we might be exploring?

The children will be exploring our new unit and making some predictions about what we might be learning about.  They will complete some writing entitled ‘I see, I think, I wonder’, using their imaginations to think about different learning possibilities.  We will look at some different stories connected to our new unit and see which aspects the children are most interested in finding out more about.

Key Vocabulary:  I think…I see…I hear….I wonder…

What if?  How? Why? Where? What? Who?

Development Outcomes

Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words.  They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs.

They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

Puffer fish- We will learn new sounds oy (as in boy) and ir (as in girl). We will read new tricky words people, house and about. We will learn how to spell tricky words have and like. We will continue to practise applying all the sounds we have learned so far.

Sharks- We will continue to work through Phase 4.  During this Phase they will practise recognition and recall of Phase 2 and 3 graphemes, as well as reading and spelling CVC words (e.g. big, cat, fit).  They will practise reading and spelling CVCC words (e.g. huff, hush, bush) and will practise reading the tricky words.  They will also practise spelling the tricky words as well as reading and writing sentences.

Octopus- We will be having a review week of all our new sounds.  We will be using the sounds to write different words and match them to the right pictures.

Jellyfish We will spend the first week back focusing on being able to read and write the phase 3 tricky words. We will also practise 'quick write’, being able to write CVC and CCVC words quickly and independently making sure our letters are written correctly, especially b, d, p and g.

Starfish-  We will focus on reviewing all the sounds taught and using them to read and write CVC and CVCC Words, for example; hat, top, duck, hill. We will work in supported groups each day to practise different phonic skills.

We will be using our new unit to explore pattern.  This will show us if the children can recognise, create and describe different types of patterns.  We will be using our senses to create sound patterns, size patterns, shape patterns, colour patterns and even some texture patterns.

Key Vocabulary: pattern, next, then, copy, repeat, check

Development Outcomes:  Children recognise, create and describe patterns

After the spring holiday the children will be talking about spring. As well as this we will do some fun mandarin activities with partterns.

We will introduce a story which is called ‘ Three Butterflies (三只蝴蝶).

Vocabulary: butterfly 蝴蝶 (hu die)     spring 春天 (chun tian )     warm  暖和(nuan he)

tree 树(shu )    flower 花(hua)  grass  草 (cao)   bird 小鸟 (xiao niao)

De oom van Jules heeft een kinderboerderij.  Jules mag deze week helpen met het voederen  en verzorgen van de dieren.  We kijken mee met Jules welke dieren er op de boerderij te vinden en maken bijzondere dierengeluiden.  Kan jij alle klanken in de namen van de dieren terugvinden?
