Forest Schools - This week will be the last session for 1S and 1U. On Wednesday 27 February 1I and 1P will begin their sessions. Further information regarding this will be sent home.
- Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
It almost seems perfect timing that as the cold Shanghai weather has arrived our Literacy focus turns to weather reports! This week the children will watch some experts in action (Mr Webb & Mrs Riordan) delivering some inspiring, and not so inspiring weather reports. We will focus on the vocabulary used and how they performed. We will then begin to write our own report scripts and film them towards the end of the week. Our writing and spelling focus will be on Capital letter use for the days of the week (Nouns), and capital/lower case formation of these.
Puffer Fish- During Phonics this week, the Puffer Fish group will be learning the alterative spelling of the sound ar as in - al and ath. They will focus on the words path, grass, calm, half and almond. We will also practise spelling the words- looked, who and think.
Star Fish- This week starfish will be learning the ie and ea sounds. They will compare these sounds to the I and ee sounds, as well as recap on tricky words.
Jelly Fish- This week we will look at the sounds - sh th ch ng. Although some of these sounds are not new we will focus on the spelling of these words using our phonics knowledge to help us.
Octopus- This week in phonics the Octopus group will be looking at the sounds ar or and ur.
We will be practising blending words with these sounds in them and trying to write words and sentences by sounding out too.
Stingray- This week Stingrays will be practicing blending words with the ear sound and spelling CCVC words such as twin, sniff, swim and clap.
Sharks- This week will be looking at the ‘i’ sound in CVC words, practising reading and writing.
This week in maths we will be learning about multiplication! We will use all the things we know about addition to help us add together lots of sets of objects and numbers.

This week in Themed Learning we will be learning about weather and different climates around the world. We will revisit continents and learn vocabulary to describe the weather. The children will be given opportunities to create music and dance for different types of weather and will also consider what clothes people might wear in different countries to adapt to the weather.
Literacy – Weather, climate, report, temperature, hot, cold, rain, wind, snow, storms.
Maths– Multiplication, times tables, counting, lots of, hundred square, numbers, addition.
Themed Learning – Climate, country, continents, weather, atlas, map, clothes.
Deze week starten we met de afname van de CITO – toetsen in year 1. We zorgen ervoor dat alle kinderen voldoende tijd krijgen om de opdrachten rustig af te werken en voorzien voldoende afwisseling.
Tussen de bedrijven door lezen we `Tommie en de Torenhoge Boterham` van Pieter Gaudesaboos, eveneens auteur van `Mannetje Koek`. Tommie heeft een reuzehonger en heeft zin in de grootste, hoogste boterham ter wereld. We halen alles uit de voorraadkast en bereiden we een torenhoge boterham die door het dak heen gaat.
De letter van de week is de `ee`van meel.
