Week Beginning 25 April 2016

Saturday 23 April is the annual Garden Party which this year has “a Twist of Shakespeare” as the theme. Again this year, we want to encourage students, teachers and parents to wear a great hat – the more unique the better. Flamboyant, fabulous and even more fantastic if you can link it to the Shakespeare theme! To add some variety we are also adding a new challenge this year. We want you to design your very own shield. You could go for a traditional design, a futuristic one or even one with a Shakespeare theme. Big or small – it is up to you but again we want you to show your imagination and creativity. The show will go on! Come rain, hail or shine, this Saturday’s Garden Party will take place as scheduled from 1pm-4pm. We are well prepared with a wet weather plan so all the fun can continue and you can expect to have a great time regardless of the weather. We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. Get those hats and shields ready and come and join the party!

  • Years 1 and 2 Sports Afternoon

Tuesday 26 April (1.20-3.30)        Primary School Playground and Field

All children will take part in each of the activities as they move around a range of stations through the afternoon; there are also plenty of rest areas planned in order that the children can drink and get some shade.  Some activities will be based around fun games and some will have a more athletic feel.   The activities are designed to challenge the students physically but also help them have fun whilst doing exercise.

  • Please ensure your child has a named sunhat to wear at school for the summer term.
  • Term 3 Second Hand Uniform Sale  3.00pm – 4.30pm on Monday 25 April in the Gallery.

In literacy next week we will be continuing to look at using the past tense to talk about things we have done. We will be using our literacy and digital literacy skills to produce some electronic work about our bean planting experiment.

Puffer Fish- Phase 6- For the next three weeks, the Puffer Fish phonics group will be focusing on the use of suffixes. This week we will focus on adding ‘ed’ and ‘ful’ to the end of words. We will focus on the vocabulary- helpful, cheerful, joyful, forgetful, buzzed, climbed, walked and talked.

Starfish – Phase 5 - Next week in phonics, Starfish will learn the ‘zh’ sound as in treasure. We will learn to spell: pleasure, casual. television and usual.

Jelly Fish- Phase 4 – We have started to learn how to read and spell some of the phase 4 tricky words. These are words that we read everyday but are not always easy to sound out. These words include said, little, there and out.

Stingray – Beginning Phase 5 - Next week the Stingrays will learn the ‘ph’ sound and compare it to the ‘f’ sound, practicing the spellings dolphin, elephant, phantom and alphabet.  We will also learn the tricky words come and some.

Octopus  - Beginning Phase 4 – Our group we will be looking at more consonant clusters such as sn, pt and scr identifying if they are found at the beginning, middle or end of words. We will listen carefully as we sound them out to spell accurately and begin to read longer words with these sounds in them. We will continue to practise tricky words like little and it’s.

Sharks – Beginning Phase 3 - Sharks this week will be practising the ‘oo’ and ‘oa’ sounds, as in book, cook, coat, boat, oak and foal.

In Maths next week the children will be learning about place value. We will revisit counting on and back in tens using their fingers and bead strings. The children will develop their knowledge of tens and units using  equipment and draw visual representations for 2 digit numbers. They will then apply this knowledge to solving simple word problems involving tens and units.

In Themed Learning this week we are continuing our insect theme by learning about parts of an insect.  This will link to PSHE as we also discuss our own body parts and how they will work on our upcoming Year One Sports afternoon.  We will also study the lifecycle of a butterfly and how the body parts change throughout  it’s life.

Maths- record, sort, interpret, Venn diagram, bar chart

Literacy- planted, watered, germinated, seedling.

Themed Learning- Plants and Insects, growing, changing, symmetry, healthy, encouraging, supportive.

Deze week hebben we het over huisdieren.  Wat is jouw favoriete huisdier?  Wat eet jouw dier en wat heb je allemaal nodig om jouw huisdier in de watten te leggen?
