Our KS1 Phonics and Spelling Workshop will be held on Tuesday 1 March. It will begin at 8:45am in Stage One.
- Swimming - During the winter months, girls are allowed to wear black leggings and black socks instead of tights under their dresses/skirts on Swimming days. This will make it easier for the girls to change before and after lessons.
- On Tuesday 8 March Year 1 will be going to Shanghai History Museum. Further information regarding this has been sent home via a letter. If you have any further questions, please contact your child’s class teacher.
- On Friday 25 March we will have the International Day parade. Children will have the opportunity to dress in their national costumes or in the colours of their home country.
This week in Literacy we are beginning our Fairy Tale theme with a study on Cinderella. We will be learning about the characters and story setting. We will then be retelling the story through role play. This will help us to use our writing skills- such as adjectives to re-write part of the story.
Puffer Fish- During Phonics this week, the Puffer Fish group will be learning the alternative spelling of ‘ee’ as in ‘y’. We will focus on the words- merry, happy, very, funny, sunny and sadly. We will also practise reading and spelling the high frequency words- eat, everyone and our.
The Starfish- This week starfish will be learning the ey and a-e sounds and compare these sounds to the ee and ai sounds. They will also continue to learn to read and spell: time, your, looked & called.
Jelly Fish- The Jellyfish are nearing the end of Phase 3 and will look at er and ai this week. We will also revise the sounds and words that we have already covered so far this term.
Octopus- This week in the octopus phonics group we will be looking at the sounds oo (long oo in boot and short oo in book) as well as the sound or. We will practise reading words containing these sounds and sound out carefully to help us spell them. We will also look at the tricky words me and my.
Stingray- The Stingrays will be segmenting the spellings brown, sport, spoil and spoon; learning the spelling of the tricky words they, all, are. They will also have opportunities to read and write sentences containing these words.
Sharks- This week the Sharks will be learning the sounds j, v, w and x. We will then move onto reading and writing words such as vet, wag, jam and box.
This week in numeracy we will be revisiting the way we measure capacity. As usual, we will have lots of practical aspects for the children to develop their understanding of the concept of capacity. As the week continues we will turn our attention towards problem solving, particularly with worded problems.
In Themed Learning this week we will be looking at patterns. We will find patterns in real life contexts and make our own. We will also start to look at symmetrical patterns and how these are different to repeating patterns. We will use our ICT skills to create patterns using laptops and iPads.
