Week Beginning 16 May 2016

MESSAGES

  • On the 16 June the Year 2 children will have a rainforest dress up day. All the children are encouraged to dress up as a rainforest animal. This will also be the day of the Year 2 learning showcase.

Literacy

During our Guided Reading sessions the children have been learning to infer information from what they have read and make predictions. Building on this in Literacy we will be focussing on reading comprehension skills.  Over the course of this week and next the children will read a range of fiction and non-fiction books and then work in small groups to become book detectives as they draw out as much information from the book as they can.

Maths

The children will be given an opportunity to apply their knowledge of addition and subtraction. They will be solving puzzles and cracking codes as they embark on a math’s quest! They will be challenged with a range of addition and subtractions questions that require them to use a method of their choice to find the answer.

Themed Learning

This week the focus of learning will be PSCHE. The lessons are aimed at helping the children solve the problems that they encounter in the playground or to make the right choice when they become annoyed or frustrated. Each session will begin with a short yoga/mindful session to ensure the children are in the correct state of mind. Following this, the children will work in small groups to discuss a problem and then think of two solutions to the problem and one poor choice that a child could make when faced with this problem. Photo cards depicting children displaying different emotions will be offered to the children to help them explain the feelings that might arise when they face a certain problem.
