In Literacy this week the children are starting a brand new unit on letter writing. They will start by investigating different types of letters, including formal written letters and more informal ways of communicating including emails, texts and blogs. They will then piece back together jigsaw letters, thinking about the order they need to go in using the features and the flow of different paragraphs as clues. Finally the children will collect information on the paleontologist, Mary Anning and create a Facebook page, ready to use as a laud pad for writing her a letter next week.

In Maths, the children will be focusing on money. They will start with recognising the key UK coins and consolidating their understanding of the value of each of them, i.e. £1 is equivalent to 100 pennies, two 50p coins, and five 20p coins. They will then apply their adding and subtraction skills to coins through a variety of practical activities, including giving change.

The children will culminate their Themed Learning unit on dinosaurs by investigating their extinction, building on their knowledge of fossil formation and debating on whether dinosaurs are indeed still living today.

In PHSCE the children this week are thinking about sharing and celebrating their successes with the upcoming parent showcase.
