Literacy

This week in Literacy we will be continuing with the genre of persuasive argument.  Students will be building on last week’s work on structure, and this week they will be developing their own composition based on a topic of their own choice related to our Space theme. Students will also investigate the other side of an argument in order to strengthen their own point of view through the consideration of opposing views.

Maths

In Maths this week students will be analysing problems to see different strategies used and how designers build in varying levels of difficulty.  They will look at creating their own differentiated problems and identify the skills and strategies that would be needed to be used to solve them.  They will then solve and assess their partner’s work.

Themed Learning

‘Space’

In Themed Learning this week, continuing our work on Propaganda posters, students will be developing their concepts and ideas using the design program ‘Gimp’.  Students will be learning how to use layering techniques and vector drawings to produce a Space propaganda poster.

In Science students will be investigating magnetic forces by looking at the patterns that these generate around planets and by polar magnets.  We will be investigating attraction and repulsion between magnets and different strengths of magnets.  We will also look at the protective effects of the Earth’s magnetic field.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully. We will also begin our Sex Education programme.
