After the Chinese New Year holiday Literacy lessons in Year 5 will literally be a mystery. The children will look at developing their own descriptive writing skills through story writing. A mysterious character in a mysterious setting; now what could be clearer than that?

In Maths this week we will be rounding numbers up to 1,000,000 to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and

100,000. We will also be recalling multiplication facts using a variety of games and activities. The children will begin to recognise and use square numbers and cube numbers and learn the notation for squared (²) and cubed (³).

In Themed Learning we will continue our Silk Road topic. Pupils will be finding out who the Scythians were and will learn about why they were so succesfful on the Silk Road trade. The children will learn more about what items were traded and how cultures was exchanged between people and nations. The children will look at artifacts and explain what they can deduce from people of the time by looking at these examples of historical evidence.

Koken, bakken, braden...
