Week Beginning 13 February 2017

  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support with this.
  • Now the weather is beginning to get colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming.

This week in Literacy, we will be beginning a unit on diaries. The children will start by investigating the purpose of a diary and its structure. They will then be challenged to use this knowledge to create their own poster of what a diary needs to be successful. This will be used the following week when they are peer and self-assessing their writing.

Greeting, date, introduction, paragraphs, feelings, 1st person, past tense

In Maths, the children will be exploring 3D shapes, lines and angles. During their work on 3D shape, the children will be making shapes using modelling materials and investigating what they look like in different orientations. The week will also include identifying horizontal, vertical, perpendicular and parallel lines in relation to other lines, as well as angles as part of the properties of shape.

3 dimensional, cylinder, cube, cuboid, prism, sphere, pyramid, horizontal, vertical, perpendicular, parallel, acute, obtuse, right angle

In Themed Learning the focus will be becoming designers. The children will be using images of theatres as a starting point for creating their own 3D theatre. This will be used later in the term for them to investigate shadows and put on their own shadow play.

After creating a collaborative design, the children will be making a mood board that includes their ideas on patterns, textures and colours. They will then use this as their inspiration for developing their own 3D theatre. This will involve many skills the children have already obtained this year, including printing.

In Computer Programming the children will be learning to create sequences in programmes and write programs that accomplish specific goals. This will be based on the programme Espresso.

Our focus this week in PHSCE will be to collaborate. This will be an important to ensure successful theatre designs. When working as a team, we will be focusing on listening to others, sharing ideas and opinions, being patient with each other and making compromises.
