Week Beginning 17 October 2016


  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  


This week in Literacy the children are continuing to immerse themselves in the genre of myths. They will have opportunity for speaking and listening activities, through drama and questioning. The children will focus on their myth and storyboard key events and use on time connectives. Key characters will also be identified and vocabulary to describe them will be collected, displayed and shared. They will end the week writing an emotive piece in character.

In Maths this week, the children will be focusing on writing and calculating mathematical statements for ÷ (division). This will be building on our mental multiplication skills from last week. All division will link to their knowledge and understanding of the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. The children will be using number lines to repeately subtract or add as a method for solving division. For example 21 ÷ 3 = 7 (21-3-3-3-3-3-3-3=0 or 0+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=7).

This week will see the children explore fossils. As  paleantologists  the children will create their own fossils, using a variety of methods: trace fossils in playdough, bones using a salt solution, and insects trapped in amber. There will be opportunities for the children to discuss and record their findings using Skitch on the year group ipads.

For the past 6 weeks the children have been practising their typing and publishing skills. This week they will continue to put these skills to test by designing and creating their own poster to present their extinction theory. They will use skills such as: changing the font, inserting word art and images and creating borders.

The focus this week will be continuing to listen to others, responding appropriately and sharing ideas. These skills will be delivers and practiced through our Themed Learning, where the children will be working in groups to collate information, present and feedback.

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

De leerlingen hebben hun vakantie-ervaringen verwerkt in prachtige reisverslagen met een imaginaire twist aan het einde, het reisverhaal. We maken deze verhalen af, evalueren het thema en ronden daarmee het thema Reisbureau SDS af.

Het is kinderboekenweek in Nederland en het thema van dit jaar is: ‘Voor altijd jong!’ waarin opa’s en oma’s centraal staan. In KS2 werken we daarom de komende weken rond het thema: Vroeger was alles ... We poetsen onze interviewtechnieken op ter voorbereiding van een interview met opa of oma over Skype; onderzoeken wat opa’s en oma’s vroeger deden (want hoe is het leven zonder internet en iPad?), schrijven verhalen en denken na over onze families.

Next week we will be learning about the vocabulary used to describe different colours. The class should be able to use these to then describe the animals that they have learned in the previous session.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will be revising masculine and feminine, and learning the phrase que quisiera.

Homework: To practise sharing their opinion using quisiera.

Year 3 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will practise  the colours in French, describing the colour of classroom objects.   We will classify  feminine and  masculine  words by looking at the use of the article `un`or  `une` in front of the nouns.

This  week’s  homework will be drawing the correct number of class room objects  in the  school bag, reading the instructions on the homework sheet carefully.  Please ask your child to use the work book to look up the vocabulary if needed.

Cette semaine, nous allons étudier les différentes façons d’écrire le son -e- (e/eu/œu), étudier la lettre -s- et identifier le verbe dans une phrase.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir uns mit den Nomen beschäftigt, und zwar mit der Einzahl und Mehrzahl der Sachen um uns herum. Dieses ist ein umfangreiches Thema und wir werden uns auch nächste Woche darauf konzentrieren. Dann wird auch verstärkt auf die Grossschreibung der Nomen Wert gelegt.
Zu Hause sollen die Kinder (mit Ihrer Hilfe) die Gegenstände in der Turnhalle in der Einzahl udn Mehrzahl in ihren Booklets schreiben (S. 10). Ihre Hilfe ist sehr willkommen, da nicht alle Kinder die Gegenstände beim Namen kennen.
