Week Beginning 28 November 2016


  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback. 
  • Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter and dress your child accordingly.   A warm hat is also recommended, particularly on swimming days.


This week in Literacy the children will be looking at the features of an explanation text. We will identify and use these features in our own short published piece by the end of the week. They will be given the opportunity to research a question of their own, for instance “Why do we cry when we chop onions?” and then make their own ‘Why?’ explanation text. Our grammar focus this week is on apostrophes and we will be looking at apostrophes for possession. We will also think about how causal and time connectives can be useful in an explanation text and why we might use them.

This week in Mathematics, we will be revisiting addition and subtraction, looking at the different metohds used to solve problems, and talking through them, ensuring clarity. We will use place value knowledge to work with four digit numbers, bridging tens, hundreds and thousands in both operations. Following this, we will investigate word problems and how to solve these, therefore looking at how to use and apply our number knowledge to different situations.

Students will continue to work together to construct their appartments with working electrical circuits including light bulbs, buzzers and switches.

This week the children will be continuing with their work on WEDO Lego, exploring and making a different model. They will need to follow the explanation and directions carefully to make a spinning top. The focus is on using gears and they will extend this to change the speed using different gears. They will need to use a motor to turn a crown gear which then turns a small gear. The children will also be using Word to complete and publish their stories and poems, using the features of Word to change the font and its size and add images where needed.

Vroeger was alles ...

De leerlingen kijken hun interviews terug en geven elkaar feedback op het werk (peer-response). Ook maken we de collages van een familietraditie naar keuze af. De profielen van de opa’s en oma’s van de toekomst en de collages van familietradities worden gebundeld tot een boekje dat de leerlingen mee naar huis zullen nemen aan het einde van dit thema. We herhalen de aan bod gekomen woordenschat en beeldspraak.

Uiteraard staan we deze week stil bij Sinterklaas en zullen de leerlingen werken aan een speciale opdracht, gegeven door de Sint zelf!

Next week we will review vocabulary for classroom instructions and begin to look at parts of the body.

This week our focus is on food and being able to explain likes and dislikes. The children will ask each other for food preferences and we will briefly look at how to order in a restaurant. For homework children will revise the vocabulary.

Year  3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood

Next week we shall be describing ourselves. We shall learn how to talk about the clothes we wear and reviewing adjectives for colours and sizes. We shall discuss the languages we speak and look at countries around the world that also speak French, other than France itself. This will involve a research task and a short oral presentation.

Nachdem die Schüler neue Bücher in der Bibliothek ausgesucht haben, haben wir uns mit dem Text schreiben beschäftigt, und zwar, dass man Groβschreibung am Satzanfang beachten muss. Zu Hause lesen die Kinder ihre Bücher weiter, schreiben oder malen in ihren Lesetiger-Heften. Zusätzlich üben sie einen zusamenhängenden Text zu schreiben: KV 14 im Booklet „Bilal besucht seinen Freund“ bietet ein Beispiel dafür. Dabei beschreiben die Kinder ihren Weg zum Freund.

Esta semana hemos hecho un breve test sobre lo que hemos hecho hasta ahora. La semana que viene vamos a trabajar las palabras con ‘ll’ y ‘ñ’, la comprensión lectora y la expresión escrita. Para deberes, hay que completar dos páginas del cuadernillo de ejercicios.
