Week Beginning 25 September 2017


  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • ECA and BISCAP confirmation letters have been sent. Both programmes will begin on Monday 4th September.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • There is no school on Friday 29th September. Have a fantastic Golden Week.


This week we will be continuing our unit on debating. Children will look at balanced arguments and find persuasive techniques that are used.  The week will end with a written piece; based on an emotive issue.

The children will continue exploring decimals this week.  Subtraction, multiplication and division will be the focus.   This week, we will have a quick mental maths test on Thursday (because there is no school) – please practice times tables in preparation for these.

As part of our STEAM learning, we will continue to look at World War 2 propaganda.  Posters, adverts and letters will be explored and evaluated.  We will also be continuing to read our class book – Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo.

This week, we will continue learning coding skills using the program: Python.  The children will work in groups and try and ‘debug’ each other’s work.

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

Klaar voor de start

Het was een drukke week: De leerlingen  van klas 6 t/m9  zijn naar de tentoonstelling over Anne-Frank in het Joods  musem geweest. Ze werden daar hartelijk ontvangen door de Consul-Generaal Mevr. Anneke Adema,  van het Nederlands consulaat in Shanghai.

Omdat het afgelopen dinsdag Prinsjesdag was,  heeft Mevr. Adema ook een verrassingsbezoek aan onze school gebracht. Ze heeft de leerlingen getrakteerd op heerlijke oranje cupcakes!

En er is ook nog met veel enthousiasme aan de klassenspellen gewerkt! De klassen spelen nu elkaars spellen en aan de hand van de ervaringen van de spelers, wordt er hier en daar nog wat aangepast aan het spel of aan de spelregels.

Volgende week gaan we dan aan de slag met het laatste onderwerp van dit thema en dat is “mythes”.

We gaan bijvoorbeeld  onderzoeken wat het begin is van taal of wat het begin is van mensen.

Donderdag is de laatste schooldag en dan begint de welverdiende eerste vakantie van dit schooljaar, “Golden Week”!  Fijne vakantie allemaal!

Registration for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) is now open to adults and students. The HSK test will be held on Saturday 11 November 2017. Please see the attached registration form for information. Full documentation and payment for HSK test must be received by Monday 9 October 2017.

This weekend’s homework will be to continue with the homework grid, choosing one homework task per week. Homework will be checked each week.

This weekend’s homework is to choose an activity from their Home-Learning Grid.
Next week we will be revisiting pets and animals.  The class will be able to voice their opinions and describe these animals using a range of adjectives including colour.

This week`s homework will be editing and labelling the different pictures on your daily routine that you`ve made over the course of last week.

Next week we will finish our `My day in French ` project.  We will look at regular school days from other children around the world.   We will practise talking about our own school day by recording ourselves on our iPads and we will use our best recordings for our Seesaw portfolio.

Als Hausaufgabe sollen die Kinder diese Woche eine Fortsetzung zur Geschichte auf Seite 8 im Booklet schreiben. (Seite 8, Aufgabe 3). Außerdem sollen sie einen Eintrag in ihr Lesetagebuch machen.
Nächste Woche werden wir uns mit einem Gruselgedicht beschäftigen und die Bücherei besuchen. Am Freitag nächste Woche findet kein Unterricht statt.
