Message from the Head of Secondary

19 November 2019

Learning is a portable thing, it really can happen anywhere! Classrooms are magical, inspiring places but so are Formula One tracks, art galleries, east African nation-states and the kitchens of a five-star hotel!

These are just a few of the places in which our students have been finding inspiration over the last few weeks. To list all the places where our students have been learning about the world around them recently would be to take up my entire newsletter article! Instead, I will remind you to keep clicking on our social media pages and try to keep up with the amazing travels of our amazing students.

Going ‘beyond the classroom’ is a crucial element of a broad and balanced education. School trips can inspire young people in ways that classroom learning cannot, and often they form the basis of very happy memories about our school days that we carry with us into adult life.

Students interact with each other in very different ways whilst they are ‘out and about’ and they experience events, tasks and moments of learning in deep and very personal ways.  Experienced teachers (BIS Abu Dhabi is lucky to have so many of them), know the value of these experiences for young people and our staff are determined to give our students those opportunities as often as they can.

The school trips that our school offers complement our curriculum and help to develop the values of kindness, respect, and honesty that we hold so dear in our community.   I urge you to help your children take advantage of every opportunity that comes along to learn in a new place, from new people and new experiences.

Chris Lowe, Head of Secondary
